Angry My 2 cents on the election

On the federal level, the Dems now have control of the House and it looks like they will get control of the Senate. Since that is the case, the second is in deep trouble. Yes, some of the new members of both houses are "moderate" but they will still owe their alliegence to the liberal left who helped get them elected. I would not be surprised to see Brady 2, or the beginnings of it, get added to some other piece of legislation that the President has no choice but to sign. All they have to do is add something like the Kennedy "cop killer" bullet ban to say a key intelligence or key defense bill and it ends up getting signed. Think that something like that can't happen? Kennedy, Biden, Leahy, Shumer, Durbin, Feingold and Finestein are all on the Judiciary committee. Kerry, Shumer, Rockafeller are on the Finance committee. Biden, Sarbanes, Kerry, Dodd, Feingold, and Boxer are all on Foreign Relations. I can personally think of tons of ways that they can add amendments to bills without having to go very far out of their way. We could be seriously screwed.

I would be very surprised if the Dems touched gun control for the next two years. They don't want to alienate pro-gun people in the president election in '08.

I mean, come on, the Dems don't actually believe gun control works. It's always been purely a political issue for them.

Keep believing that my young friend and you will be without your firearms. I've seen this happen more than once and when they think they can get away with it, the will try it. Besides, it would energize thier base in a major way. Mikey the Moron Moore would be dancing in the streets and singing praise to Allah.

ETA: Lets not forget who Casey brought into the state to raise money and get the troops out. Do the names Clinton, Pelosi, and Kerry mean anything to you?

I'm not saying it won't eventually happen if they have absolute power, but I don't believe they will attempt it in the next 2 years. There is no point in energizing the base about gun control because they are already energized on hating Bush and Iraq. In fact, a lot of Republicans and Independents are energized about the same thing. Gun control is a distraction right now.

However, I would start getting worried if they maintain control of the Congress in '08 and a Democratic president is elected also.

Wouldn't a nice AWB right before the election electify their base enough to keep both houses of Congress and get them the White House? Especially if Hitlery is at the top of the ticket.

It's possible, but I just don't think they would be stupid enough to risk it considering the position they are in now. There are so many other things that they "energize" their base on; Iraq, CIA wire tapping, health care, minimum wage, big oil, etc. These are issues that can cross party lines easily and be winners for the Democrats.

There may be some proposals for "one gun a month," but I don't think there will be anywhere near the restrictions that were in place during the Clinton years.

All I'm saying is that it could be a lot worse. Let's not panic until we see what happens.

Republicans, and specifically Bush, are to blame for all of this. Now that I look back I wish McCain was our President.

Please don't take this as an attack but what about McCain? I never hear a nice word about him from Rush. (he is on the company radio each day)

Is he gun friendly? Are you sure?

* Has a C+ rating from the NRA, extremely low for a Republican.
* Earlier NRA ratings--from 1982 through 1998--were consistently A or A+. Critics speculate that a 1999 conflict with the NRA over campaign finance reform led McCain to break from the NRA and support more gun control legislation.

He doesn't have a great record with the NRA, but I like him because he is more centrist and willing to speak up when he thinks things are going wrong. When I vote, I don't vote solely on the persons NRA rating.

Remember, Reagan was and even GW Bush is for the assault weapons ban. The only reason a new AWB hasn't been passed is because congress hasn't created one. Most Republican congressmen/senators probably don't want to touch the issue because that is their base.

anyone who thinks gun control is off the table is off their rocker. You havent seen anything yet. They are salivating over the damage they can do. They have learned from the clinton years. This time look out. We are in for heavy shit. This is not going away in 2 years. You are seeing the begining of the end. You can call me doom and gloom but this will go into the next presidental election. The next pres in not going to be republican. At this point it really doesnt matter rep or dem. This is why the repubs lost so big. lets face it. It was a landslide. plain and simple. In the next 2-6 years this will not be the same country. You can expect licensing, registration, gun bans, ammo bans, finger printing. Just look at what the anti gun states like NY and cali did. Look at what a anti's wet dream is for gun control. This is what will come our way. And while they are making us all safe the terrorists will be blowing us up.

I am so upset that this country voted like this and I am more upset that the repubs were not above this and didnt do a better job in being conservative. For all the people out there that didnt vote or voted 3rd party. thanks
