Default Citizens Police Academy - Montgomery Twp

Has anyone attended one of these?

Looks like it's free and I usually don't have anything better to do on Tuesdays from 7-9pm.

CITIZEN POLICE ACADEMY

March 4, 2008 to May 6, 2008

The Montgomery Township Police Department wishes to announce our annual Citizen Police Academy. The academy will provide community members with an inside look at local law enforcement.During the academy, students will be introduced to a variety of topics as described under the curriculum outline.

The ten-week academy is designed to give citizens an overview of the police department's function and operational procedures. The curriculum and teaching methods are similar to the traditional police academy; however, the weekly sessions are not designed to train the participant as a police officer.

Academy classes are taught by veteran police officers. The classes will meet once a week (Tuesday) and run for approximately ten (10) weeks. Each class will run from 7:00 P.M. to approximately 9:00 P.M. After the final class there will be a graduation ceremony.

There is no charge to participate.Applicants must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and a resident, business owner, or non-resident employed within the Municipality of Montgomery Township. All applicants will be subjected to a criminal history check as a precondition to acceptance in the Academy. The Chief of Police has final approval of all applications and reserves the right to deny entry to any applicant.

Anyone wishing to participate can pick up an application at the Montgomery Township Police Department at 1001 Stump Rd. Montgomeryville, Pa 18936.All questions pertaining to the program can be directed to the Citizen Police Academy Coordinator Sgt. Scott Bendig via e-mail at sbendig@montgomerytwp.org or 215-362-2300.

I can't speak about Montgomery PD but I went to Lower Southampton's several years ago. It was interesting. They had guest speakers come in. We lifted prints, saw various drugs, and went to Penndel PD's Interactive (Simulated) Shooting Range. Towards the end, you also ride along with an officer for a few hours. Overall it was a good experience and I enjoyed it.
