Default Hunting on Your Own Property.

You guys have all been great with bringing me up to speed with all the local issues. I have one more.

Are there any restrictions with hunting on your own property? Do I have to follow the season rules? (don't know them yet)

Do I have to have a proper hunting license to hunt on my property?

Can I rent out the hunting rights? any restrictions on that?

Thanks in advance.

You can't gun hunt within 150 yards of a building w/out the land owner's permission, called a safety zone, Archery is 50 yds.

You need a license and need the hunter's ed course to get the first one. PA just went to a POS system where you can go to Wal-Mart, Dick's, etc. and buy a license over the counter. They scan your PA driver license and it imprints your name and address on everything. County treasurers sell them too...

You can lease out the hunting rights though you would need a good sized property to make that worthwhile. If you just bought land you probably have neighbors trespassing, is it posted?

PA Game Comission has a great website www.pgc.state.pa.us/

Thanks for the info Wis Bang. There are "no trespassing" signs all over the place from the prior owner. I have not seen any trespassing.

So from what you are saying I gather that I need a hunting license to hunt on my own land. I think I have the 150 yards covered. I certainly have the 50 yards with the bow covered.

you aren't likely to get much for leasing out under 9 acres of land... figure in your house, driveway... safe distances... etc and you are probably looking at less then 8 acres, probably closer to 7.
