No way in hell! Headcase looked into last year and from what I remember they basically said everyone had to pay full price, and it was per hour. So they weren't open to any discount whatsoever, unless we had over 20 people from what I remember. Either way, I wouldn't pay 15 an hour(which im sure is the lowest they would go) to shoot guns. PPC isn't set up for those kinds of events anyway. Well if someone had the property, someone could type up an agreement releasing the property owner of all liability if anyone gets hurt on the property. I think it would go pretty simple, everyone would just have to sign it.

Just have anyone that shoots or comes to the shoot, to sign a liability waiver. Don't sign, don't shoot.

I am not sure why there is so much negativity about PPC. Two of my friends have won guns at PPC competing in a 22 league there. And I was at the Memorial Shoot for the Trooper who was killed in the line of duty. I did not win anything but 4 or 5 pistols were given as first prizes and someone won a 22 S&W AR15 look a like rifle. And the Fire Dept did a Poker shoot fund raiser there.
I have shot at Sunset and stopped going there when they lowered the ceiling stop to the point I had to stand un-natural to shoot. The targets were hung on a cloth line and you cranked them out to 12 or 15 feet to shoot at. I have shot at French Creek Outfitters in Phoenixville Pa they charge about the same as PPC. They have a Range Officer watching you through the window when he isn’t busy ringing people up and stuff. And I shot at an indoor range in Reading, it was cheaper, but not as nice and the electronic target controls were cheesy but ok. And they did not have a Range Officer anywhere around. I have shot at “free ranges” in state game lands in Gouldsboro, French Creek, & Nesquehoning Pa. All are out side and ok in the Spring Summer & Fall. But a lot of people are there and not all of them safe minded. And no rangers around to take care of problems. I tried PPC and on my first visit I thought ouch pricy. However I decided to try it they have a Range Officer right in the range for questions and to make sure that people are safe. I actually saw the range officer eject someone from the range because after repeatedly being told which direction was safe, they kept pointing their pistol where it should not have been pointed (my direction). Targets go out to 50 ft and at the trooper memorial shoot they were using a 75 ft shooting range in the back. I have found the people who work their extremely nice and helpful.

I like to set my target up, take a few shots, try and get good groupings at different distances. Work on my grip, work on my sighting. Try and figure out what works best for me. If I have to do this on a time schedual that is not my own, I don't feel I can actually enjoy my time there. Not to mention reloading magazines takes up time, it takes up time to set your target in place, etc. When you think about it, you're not really getting much time to shoot for your $18 dollars. IF I have to pay, I'd rather go to sunset hill, spend $15 dollars, and shoot the whole day, at my leisure. Sure it might be cold this time of year, but you get what you pay for. You can step back off the line, smoke a cigarette, BS with your friends between shooting. Take time out to talk to eachother and try and help eachother out with technique, or commend eachothers shooting. Talk to the range officers, get some insight from them. Then you can go back to shooting, and you don't have to worry about how much time you have left... Does PPC have a stop clock you can hit for every moment you aren't on the line actually firing your weapon? I don't think so. If I was a yuppy or a tourist I might have the money to burn, but as someone who doesn't have the option to spend 60 dollars just to use the range every time, it's not feasible for me. I bet Jerry was the first one at the mayor's office telling him to support Bloombergs new anti-gun initiative.

It's not that simple, please put some more thought into this, people not shooting can also get hurt, such as wifes and kids. Signing a self serving liability waiver is ok but wont hold much water if someone gets serious hurt, or worst, at a get together in a quarry that is not an approved shooting range.
I would go for the SG-127, as it would be an approved state range, or a gun club with shooting ranges. I don't think a waiver would mean much if something happened while shooting in some quarry not approved for shooting. Not trying to be a smart ass, just don't want to see anyone have problems. SS |

Speaking as a person who enjoys shooting and has been shooting at indoor and out door ranges for years, all the indoor ranges charge more than an outdoor range, they claim to offset air handling systems, lead removal and what ever else they have to have that an out door range doesn’t. I actually thought that PPC has come up with some cool ideas other than throwing lead down range at a bulls eye. I have been trying to get my wife to go to a “Ladies Only Night” that they have. The 22 league, glock shoot are cool and the poker shoot was wild it combined skill and luck. A Free Range at a state forest is probably the best place to get together with a bunch of buddies and shoot all day, have a picnic take naps and smoke cigars. The only draw back is not being able to get the whole range to yourselves. And come winter or bad weather the indoor range is a big plus (and the A/C in the summer isn’t bad either).

Ducky,
I guess you did not read my # 7 message: You said: "A Free Range at a state forest is probably the best place to get together with a bunch of buddies and shoot all day, have a picnic take naps and smoke cigars. The only draw back is not being able to get the whole range to yourselves." You can get the state range closed for a shoot. "If or / when GL-127 re-opens you can reserve the range for a shoot at no cost if it's a real shoot. I think you have to give them 30 days notice and they will close down the range for most any organized shoot." SS |
