People who think that way are morons. My friend tells me I would never need to carry a gun to walmart at night, then last summer some guy stops a gang initiation by defending his life with his own gun. Now the same friend tells me I'm an asshole for going to walmart past 8o'clock and I'm just looking for trouble because I carry a gun...

Where is the logic? I don't know.. He's very intelligent and going to law school, yet he still cant grasp what liberty means.

There is no logic to your friends thought process. The reason is he lacks common sense. You say he is smart but their is a difference between "book" smarts and "common sense". Your friends original position was proven wrong and in typical fashion instead of looking at himself he turned it back around on you and why you "look for trouble". Personally it sounds to me like the guys doing the gang initiation were looking for trouble but also carry a gun wherever I go so obviously i'm also an asshole.

Two arrested in East Stroudsburg car jacking

October 24, 2009 Two people are under arrest after carjacking a homeless man in a Wal-Mart parking lot.

Heath Zachary, 43, of Stroudsburg, and Matthew Katona, 19, of East Stroudsburg, were arraigned Saturday after police said they kicked a man out of his car at the Wal-Mart on Lincoln Avenue in East Stroudsburg and stole his car around 2 a.m. Saturday.

Police said the unidentified victim had been living in his car, and that the two beat him up and threw him out of the parked vehicle.

Police found the car behind 82 N. Second St., Stroudsburg, around 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Within 10 minutes of finding the car, the two defendants were found near the Shop-Rite on North Third Street.

Both are charged with robbery of a motor vehicle, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.

The Sherman theater is struggling to establish their business and restore an incredible venue in our area for many cultural events. Mains street is a safe enough place don't hesitate to give them your business.

I wasn't going to get involved in this but I just have to.

Right reichebrown, like I need that kind of "cultural experience". It used to be that to get that kind of experience you had to go to NY or NJ, isn't it just great that now you can get it right here on main street now.

The funny thing is that a lot of the good guys that I've talked to, moved here from the city to get away from the "city cultural experience". If there having withdrawal from it they can always go back for awhile.

Like frankie said:
"These incidents happened in a very short time frame. If you are going to the Sherman for that concert you may want to think twice as this gas station is only 1/4 mile from it"

I feel sorry for the Sherman theater, I remember it when it was a real theater, but I don't think there going to make it, gone are the nights of years ago, when we could go walkin on main street, window shopping without a care in the world. I'll just stay here on top of my mountain, getting all the "natural" cultural experience I can handle. Never did seem to need any of that "city culture", especially now at my age, as some know I'm way to old to fight so you guys that are street smart know there's only one thing left for us old guys to do.
But rather than do something stupid I'll just do what Dredly said:

"stay away from it... its easier to just stay away then to go closer"

Unless of course your looking for a shoot out, then you may find one on main street. If the Burgs get cleaned up and the LEO's start getting rid of all the scum that has moved here I may go walking and / or shopping on main street again. But I doubt very much that will happen, there's way to much money at stake.

Being that I'm an old time local I know for a fact that what your reading in the Pocono Record is only the tip of the iceberg, a lot of stuff that happens does not get reported, especially in certain areas of Stbg, E. Stbg and PCP, do you realize what would happen to property values if it all came out.

Thank God main street doesn't have any thing I need.or want.

I agree. I have no issues walking downtown at night. wether it`s back in the alley by Sarah Street Grill or by the Sherman. If you use good judgment like any downtown you should be safe. Per capita crime in the main areas of E`burg and S`burg is way lower then most towns.
The Sherman is a great place and is doing super at bringing in some top talent. The Dereck Trucks band is coming and in December Dicky Betts. The concert Friday night my son and dil went to and said it was awesome.

Whenever I venture down in that area I have 3 guns concealed on me. They may get one from me but they will not get all 3. At 57 years old I have to be very very well prepared for these young thugs as I can be a potential target.

I also started a thread in the Pocono section for the crime in the Burgs if anyone wants to add to it.

I 100% agree with other posters that much goes on that is never published. You have to know someone to find that stuff out.

I hear what your saying frankie, when I was younger I was full of wind, piss and excitement like a lot of younger guys would be in there 20's, 30's, and 40's but never, never, did we do what some of these guys do today, hell we didn't rob anyone or even carry guns, had no need to.

I have no idea how old Exbiker or reichebrown is but I would bet there not in there 70's, probably not even in there 50's. If they are they have more balls than I do.

Exbiker said: "Per capita crime in the main areas of E`burg and S`burg is way lower then most towns" I wonder who fed him those numbers.

Bottom line for me:
I'm not interested in what is goin on in most towns, only interested in "my" town, like I've said, most only know what they read in the Pocono Record.

Imagine this, me and my wife, both in our 70's, walking down main street at night like we used to do many, many years ago, just window shopping, and of course not bothering anyone, just trying to enjoy the night, then it happens, HEY OLD MAN we need 50 bucks so we can get into the Sherman, we hear they have some cultural there tonight and we need some, now picture this, two people in there 70's trying to resist or ignore them, now they start to get a little physical, a bit of pushing etc. again picture this, two older people trying to out run the scum that are trying to get what ever they can from us, well that's not going to happen, what will happen, there will be two less scum bags on main street, and probably two old people in jail for shooting two scum bags. It's best we stay away.

Main street at night is no longer what it used to be, it may be ok for you younger guys that seem to have a need to be "culturalized" at the Sherman, but sad to say it's really not a safe environment for older people.

I`m 55 and have worked out of E`burg since the mid 70`s. First for Circle C hauling out of what was then BASF and then as a company driver. I`ve been here in Chestnuthill for over 28 years and have always been from eastern Pa.
I still contend most parts of S`burg are very safe even at night.
