A person committing crime out of necessity would likely not steal guns. It's too much of a risk and raises their chances of being caught quite a bit. Remember, if it is someone stealing out of necessity, they probably don't know anyone who they can sell the guns to illegally, nor would they want to.

It's the usual story, criminals from ny and nj, even parts of PA come to the Pocono's because they think it's like a vacation area for bad guys. For all intensive purposes it is. They come here as experienced criminals, and have minimal police presence compared to where they came from. They take advantage of the peoples drug addiction and naivity. Feel more brazen about burglarizing homes or vehicles. Theyve tried hitting a few banks, stores, and homes lately.

Well, I guess this is why we carry guns huh.
you got it right man! They think theyre going to come in and take over the poconos, ive even heard a few attest to this.."this is my town yo"...although i do believe that , while not out of necessity, they will steal guns under the idea that they may get what they want faster.

Look at what happened to Rich's shop. someone drove through the front..(if any of this is wrong rich, feel free to correct me)...stole a gun and got caught down the road trying to rob riteaid or something like that. they're just getting so damn bold lately, and the imports are majorly at fault for this.

there have been numerous broad daylight robberies and vehicle break-ins also. and this is EXACTLY why we carry guns!

I agree...I don't live up here, but I work here...and I see it all the time. Reminds me of my favorite comment related to the East Stroudsburg Wal-Mart 'shootout' last year: "We have guns here, go rob someone back in Jersey"

Seriously though, the boldness of violent crimes is up everywhere because people have been taught to not defend themselves or others; rather, wait for help to arrive. That's why many people ignore crimes, and why people are starting to carry more. To defend themselves and keep criminals guessing...It is basically this logic to criminals:

"Man who walk boldly in clear field walk much more carefully in mine field"

this is exactly why i carry concealed. while i have absolutely no problem with someones choice to open carry, and i do feel the increased presence of guns deters crime, i carry concealed because i personally believe it helps those who do not, or are afraid, to carry guns since criminals have to guess who is or is not armed.

seeing a gun on a hip simply tells them to go pick someone else to target, not seeing anything tells them to think twice. much respect to those who open carry though i hope you continue to exercise your rights, the previous statements are simply my own opinion and reasoning.

robberies? who cares about those, look at the murders! I think there have been like 10 murders or more in Monroe county in the last year...

I still remember seeing news coverage for almost a year back in the early 80's when a kid took his dad's hunting rifle and shot a girl who was on the back of a snow mobile (Think it was one of the Carr girls?). Or even the Jim Grimes (or gromes? can't remember) case where he was abducted and murdered, that was only 12 - 13 years ago, massive news coverage.

Anyone remember the black guy that raped and stabbed that white girl and then buried her under the floor boards and then she escaped and there were almost riots because they were accusing a black guy for the crime...

Now its 2 - 3 days coverage if that and possibly a follow up story. Body parts all over the highway? a week worth of coverage, attempted murder? maybe a second page story

what the hell happened to this place

i dont know man, but its getting uglier by the day. knew a guy that worked at martz, he said after 9/11 1,000 families a WEEK were moving here.thats at least 2-3,000 people/week for a while. dont forget the rape in the bathroom of club vogue when it was open, and at 10 am in the walmart parking lot in broad daylight.

there was also a carjacking at knife point at the 447 stop light by wendys in east stroudsburg. they're getting braver by the day, and even more stupid.
