Sounds as if it's easier to accomplish than getting a driver's license or even one for your dog.

Had a license to carry for "Protection of Life and Property" in anti-gun Massachusetts from the 1960s to 1980s. Seldom packed a gun concealed. Needed a LTC in that state to have a handgun in your car or transport it some place or make a purchase. When I moved to New Hampshire there was no such requirement to have a hand gun or to even buy one. Though as easy or perhaps more so than Pennsylvania, I never bothered to get a license to carry in NH. Even with increased numbers of liberal politicians there now, they can't get much traction to pass restrictive gun laws in NH.

Seems that PA too is still mostly firearms friendly.
I guess the point is since we are on a gun forum, we are just sharing our enthusiasm and excitement with others who obviously have similar interests?

You didn't carry concealed or more recently did not get a license, presumably since you saw no need. Those are both your choices and I respect your right to make them. As someone who had carried in the past I can say there was at least one occasion where I adamantly believe that carrying a gun saved my life (or saved me from being robbed and beaten at the least). Because of this I exercise my right.

Oh and you are right it doesn't take much to keep some people happy. I am glad the simple things bring me joy and wouldn't have it any other way!

First off, I am on no one's "team." I work alone. Just ask my wife. Ooooops!

Did not intend to belittle or insult anybody. Should have realized that for whatever reason, certain members of gun the toting fan crowd are somewhat sensitive to the subject. If you gives a thrill and makes a person feel safe, carry as many guns as you please for whatever reason. I'm a total libertarian and don't believe that any citizen should have to go hat in hand to some government bureaucrat thug to exercise his or her Constitutional right.

Obviously I did poorly at expressing my ideas.

This past week I was out and about up by the Harmony Lake or Lake Harmony or whatever it's call area of PA. It was noonish and I was a little hungry but didn't want a whole big meal. Spotted a guy sitting in front of an abandoned gas station with a hot dog cart. Realized that I hadn't had a hot dog in a dog's age. Pretty good pun huh? Anyway, I stopped and ordered one frankfurter en' bun. Got talking to the vendor who explained that when he lost his job last year it was decided to try peddling hot dogs from the cart.

When I asked him about the permitting process of that town he went on to explain. For that man to sell hot dogs from a cart, he was required by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to attend a mandated college course in food handling and preparation. There were tests and certification. He was also required to have a full background check and medical exam all at his expense. According to him, the total process to secure a permit to operated that little side of the road hot dog cart was two months work and over two thousand dollars spent to satisfy the government. This is to sell lousy tasting boiled hot dogs!

Getting back to my original point . . . Compared to many other extra-legal government entanglements at every level of our daily lives, securing a license or permit carry a concealed weapon in states such as Pennsylvania are still pretty easy. Be happy! Hopefully it will remain that way.

Again, I'm puzzled. After an illustration about the vicissitudes of hot dog vending, implication being that gun permits are being given away too easily, he concludes with the contradiction that "hopefully it will remain that way." Now why would he go to such lengths to paint the picture of the hot dog guy for no reason? Why don't you just come out and say it? You want more restrictions.

I'm going to spell it out. Many states and other municipal jurisdictions attach and mandate unconstitutional proscriptions to the possession of firearms, particularly handguns. Even here in our own county the Sheriff adds extra-constitutional requirements like 2 references from within the county and current municipal tax form, both of which are not specified in the PA constitution or statutes. They often get away with this because the average guy does not have the financial resources to challenge these illegal roadblocks all the way to the supreme court where they are summarily dismissed time after time.

Unlike hot dog vending or any other vending or vocation for that matter, the right to self defense is not a privilege but an eternal God-given right that should never be taken away or hindered by any government. Couple that with our second amendment, which is why we're all on this forum in the first place and you have an iron-clad right to carry firearms concealed for self protection, as it should be.

If you have any issues at all, they should not be with how easy it is to get a permit in PA. They should be why so many other states and municipalities hassle their citizens with unconstitutional restrictions on their second amendment and natural rights.

I think it's a shame that people feel the need to put more gun restrictions in place. All this does is stop or hinder decent people from protecting themselves. All the gun laws in the world will not keep a criminal mind from doing what ever the hell they're going to do but instead it will prevent us the "innocent" from protecting ourselves and others...but that's how the government works I guess. More restrictions less common sense as the generations go by.

Once you hit the five week mark I would give a call to check on the status. Then I am sure within a day or two you will receive your postcard. I know your frustration with it. My call wasn't pleasant and had I not called it would have been left at the bottom of the pile. My wife applied last week for hers. So it's the waiting game all over again.
