Default Be sure to take a look at the Pleasent Valley new letter

for everyone who is in the PV school district... some scary numbers:

- 6509 students enrolled

12.94% special Ed
4% gifted
1.34% can't speak English
8.33% African American
9.45% Hispanic
25.81% "Economically Disadvantaged"

Total support staff:
491 Professional
442 Teachers (included in above number) - thats approx 1 teacher for every 14 kids (in theory)

think this may explain why my school taxes are so fucking high?

In the top group many of those %`s are in a number of groups. Our taxes are really reasonable. I have relatives in Forks, Plainfield, Palmer, Moore, Warrington, Doylestown, Camp Hill, Nazereth and Lehigh Twsp. and I laugh at them. My sister in Doylestown pays over 6K on a townhouse.
Donna Les does a great job with the budget but much of the rules are set by the state and fed and there are tons of unfunded mandates.
I thought enrollment was over 6900 and don`t forget cyber and charter schools we pay for. I thought we actually average around 17 students per teacher. Your number may include aids and para-professionals.

There is still waste. One positive step was outsourcing the buses. Then they kept the 2 bus administrators in their $$ jobs on the payroll. Blame the board because one is a board member spouse.

The revolt is coming soon. The PSEA and NEA will fall like the UAW will fall. We call your union (PSEA) the Pennsylvania Extortion Association. If you are already a tenured teacher you`re lucky because when we get rid of the defined benefit pension you currently have you`ll likely be grandfathered in and new hires will have a standard plan. The bank is breaking.
