Default Ranges and Clubs

I am having a difficult time finding places to shoot. Normally, it is the GC ranges. I would be interested in joining a club with good facilities. I have Factoryville on my list. I have checked into W-B Pistol out near Hunlocks Creek but need 2 sponsors. I would think I should be able to get Matt from Matts Shooting Supplies to help me out. Anyone else here can offer more info? Or even other places?

Hi Bric, I'm in the same exact situation as you and live in WB. Our area sucks for places to shoot. Let me know how you make out...Thanks

Their are no decent, or for that matter any ranges in the immediate WB area. I only really go to one of the PGC ranges, which I happen to like alot but it is seeing increased useage by idiots.

You can probably get sponsers if you go shoot some of the IDPA matches or other events they have there. That way you can meet people who shoot there and get hooked up. They have probably the best rifle range around. Goes out to like 300+ yards i think. Their pistols aren't the best if you shoot moving competitions like IPSC and IDPA for practicing while others are on the line, but it's still a nice facility.

Getting a good, local range would be nice but the start up would probably be a major headache for anyone trying to do this.

Hey Steve, I'm buying home in march, moving up from Easton,PA area. If I do close on the house we'll have to talk more about putting a club together. I'm sure it's tuff esp. at first to cover the insurance costs, property etc. Maybe if we got enough members together the first year, and offered life membership for people that join and put in some extra money like $400 or something? If we can't get enough members together after a few months to afford to buy a property and pay the first years insurance you could return everyone's deposit. Just a thought.

I'd like to have a range with an emphasis on handguns range/maybe even indoor range if we get enough members, draw and fire range, IPSC/IDPA courses. But also rifle range for the hunter members and AR-15 bandits etc.

I would support it so keep me informed but.....people around here hate anything new. They hated the arena and voted against it, they voted against an indoor shooting range in Mountaintop, they hate strip clubs and Casinos.

Even though everyone hated the changes... everything passed. I'd like to help and try to make it a go. Why not pursue the idea? Let's see what happens. Gotta start somewhere.

The shooting range in Mountaintop didn't pass....and that was the main point of my post. Shooting ranges are a tough sell to the community. It was (to be) a PGC sponsored range also which had very good support. If interested in starting up a new range the farther away from Wilkes Barre and surrounding communities you get-the better the odds of acceptance/success.

Gosh, fellows I have been reading your comments on ranges.. I also feel betrayed by the PA Game commision with the closing of the range near Mountain Lake. really don't know what to say about the Mountain Top area.
