Another potential issue is the well-known tendency of GCOs to hassle & fine people in possession of semisuto paramilitary rifles, AK, SKS & AR-15s in particular. Search this just this forum if you want to read some tales of exasperation.
French Creek, the range at SGL-43 has been a controversial topic here and elsewhere. I won't go into the sordid details as you can search PAFOA for previous posts replete with stories. I will pass along a personal observation-I saw a game officer watch a shooter using an SKS (not me), went over, checked weapon, questioned the shooter at length. It was obvious he was looking for the slightest infraction. Found nothing. Nada. Zip. Fined him for driving a cement mixer (overweight vehicle) onto the parking lot. The point is, if they don't like you, your gun, your horse, they
will find pretext to fine you. I had a plain old Mosin 91/30 bolt gun, they ignored me. That was the last time I set foot on SGL-43, or any other PA State range.
Here's one example:

The guy said "We don't really like people shooting those kinds of guns here" then he mumbled some bull $h!t about how you can't hunt with it, so you don't really need it.... Then he mentioned that since I was following the 3 round rule and taking my time, aiming each shot, "I guess you're ok".
