I don't like it and wouldn't do it. That doesn't mean it should be illegal.

It appears you guys are fixated on deer. As stated before I have shot alot of bears in the true northwoods of Maine, New Brunswick, Manitoba, all except 3 have been over bait, the reason, quite simple. The territory is so vast, time is so limited and that country is thicker than thick as far as bush is concerned.

I'm all in for bears over bait in the north, unnecessary here in PA however.

Not ever will you find me shooting a deer species over placed bait unless standing crops are still intact, no different than an oak tree or apple orchard.

Bait is a management tool in some cases, and important.

Open mindedness is important on these issues, band together folks to many want to take guns and hunting away as it is.

Bait is a great tool to get kids and keep kids interested in the outdoors until old enough to make their own decisions.

As much as I like deer meat there have been many years when I didn't get one. That being said the reason is I hunt don't bait don't use scents just hunt. If I wanted to setup over bait I'd sit in the outhouse with the door open and just shoot one in the back field. But thats not hunting

Hunting to me is matching your skill against an animals some times you win and sometimes the animal wins for another year. Besides the woods in December are beautiful.

I know i an somewhat controversial and will get into trouble for saying this but, I am totally against hunting over bait, over "food plots", hunting from a tree stand, hunting with a laser sight, hunting from a blind, shooting a deer moose, elk in water (illlegal in some states) .

Sorry if i upset anybody , but since i were a little boy i have always spoken my mind.

Thanks, Nyman

I think it should be legal. Anything that draws deer away from being killed on the highway and back in to the woods should be allowed. What should be outlawed is bonus tags. There is no reason whatsoever for anyone to harvest multiple deer, PERIOD! There are better ways to control areas that have too many deer. I'm personally looking for these areas. I don't think they exist. Just as I have yet to find the over browsed areas I heard so much about from the PGC in the recent past.

I wish I had the guts to tell you what I really think.

Personally, I am of the belief that man has been using bait to hunt for thousands upon thousands of years and there is nothing wrong with it. As Uncle Tedd pointed out on one of his episodes, what's the difference between me hunting under an acorn tree or picking up the acorns and moving them to under a different tree?

Come up to the plateau. I can show you areas w/ a hard browse line about 4 feet above the ground and very few seedling/saplings except for beech, not to mention a low diversity of what should be fairly common herbaceous plants.

Have you ever tried to get a prophylactic on a mature buck in rut? I'm pretty sure it's damned hard!

Yeah, the scarcity of deer started on the Northwest areas.......the Southwest didn't see it for 5 years later.....now they know.

Give it time.

I have no use for it---Where is the sportsmanship and the trill of hunt when hunting over bait.

I don't have a problem with baiting, and think it should be perfectly legal. I don't necessarily consider it sporting, but don't think it should be illegal. There are some people that are disabled, children, broad geographical areas, etc, where people may not see animals or have the physical ability to get to animals unless they bait them. Some people would consider shooting a deer at 300+ yards unsporting; mainly because it's more difficult for the animal to detect you, or they think they're "safe". I know some people that consider it unsporting to shoot a deer at 100 yards with a rifle, they think you should be using a bow.

I find it interesting that so many people are only talking about large game animals. Do you think it should be ok to bait invasive and over populated species like coyotes, foxes, feral hogs, etc? Is it sporting to sit only in the flight lanes of migratory birds like geese, ducks, doves, sandhill cranes, etc? The sky is a pretty big place to not kind of limit yourself to food plots or fly lanes. I think it should be the way it is, about a person's personal ethics. I will personally shoot a feral hog or coyote ANY way that I come across them, especially if I have to bait or call them in. I think when you mention "hunting", you can't just consider large game animals, but have to also mention other animals like varmints, small game, birds, etc.

Good things come to those who bait!

I don't understand people who hunt with firearms and use other ways and means to take animals like scents or antlers how they think it's "unnatural" or not sporting to use bait. Is it natural for you to produce a controlled explosion sending a projectile hundreds of meters away? Is it natural for you to travel many days walk from where you live to hunt? Is it natural for you to be able to survive outside for hours at a time in the dead of winter? Unless you're running around in your birthday suit with nothing but a bad attitude it seems to be you are not being very sporting. I can't stand hearing about sporting from the archer who's got $3,000 worth of gear and a lease in a great spot.
