Default Pa Sportsman Permit

Does anyone know the process of getting a Pa Sportsman Permit in Lackawanna county? and the age requirement?

sportsman permits are useless.

just get your LTCF it gives you everything the sportsman does and more.

I do have it but my brother's only choice since he is 18 and wants to hunt with a handgun during the PA hunting season...he doesn't want to take any chances of Game Commission Officer's screwing with him.

How is your brother going to obtain a handgun to hunt with?
He can't walk into a gun store to buy one and AFAIK you cannot lend him one to use simply because he has a sportsman permit.

Can you cite where you can lend a pistol to someone with a sportsman permit? Remember you can only hunt in PA with revolvers, so if you have a semi-auto, he can't use that.

I know you can transfer firearms to a sibling who is under 21, but you need to do it at the sheriff's office. You can't do it at a gun shop.

From what I understand you have a better chance of Obama campaigning for national concealed carry then having a sheriff sign off on a handgun transfer to an 18 year old.

ETA: I see you live in philly. I just LOL'ed, your brother will never have a handgun transfered to him.

His Father could give him a handgun. No need for a Sheriff or an FFL.

As for the OP, the Lackawanna County Treasurer issues them. Funny thing, I do not think they look at your background at all.

Be safe (and I don't know why the Sheriff does not do them as well).

You can openly carry a pistol at 18 with no license at all, you need the sportsman permit to take the gun to/from hunting and conceal it while hunting.
