Fall turkey hunting is a good time to learn how to call for the following reasons. Spring time is a little more difficult to call a mature tom.
#1 If you break a flock, you can call a couple back with about any noise that resembles a turkey, mainly you want to learn the kee kee and yelp. #2 You get a lot of free lessons from the real thing because you should hear a fair amount of calling from the flock and mother hens trying to get back together. If you know a roosting location, go there the night before and break a flock right before dark. Go back in the dark the next morning for a really fun hunt. They will be anxious to get back together after a night alone. Good luck and identify your target. |
