Hey P'Dog,
I live out here in York Co. & have access to about half a dozen farms where we hunt chucks. I don't believe we could run out of em if we hunted year round. As a farmer myself if I could wipe out a colony it would be great but nearly impossible. I know a guy who trapped 26 chucks from one complex over a summer. I think there are more than folks think, but they definately get wary due to pressure and misses( I've certainly educated my share of the nasty little suckers). BTW I had my best outing ever last evening; seven rounds expended 6 confirmed kills & one probable. Weapon of choice: Savage 10FP-LE2 in .308 win. with a Super-Sniper 30mm 10X42 scope, 110gr Hornady V-max on 48.3 gr of IMR 4895. "Accurate, Deadly, Dependable" Death To Gus!!! |

D'guy,
My favorite farms are in Lancaster County. Have a couple in Chester and Bucks, but you can only use rimfire there. If your having fun that is what counts. Be safe. Aim small, shoot small Jeff

Okay, I have been stalking a groundhog who is digging under the new house. i have taken some long range .22 shots, and a rambo style shotun blast on the run. I have even tried the pistol with no success...
It's been a few weeks from my last sighting when last night I see something run down the driveway. That crazy thing is out every night. This is the first time I have seen a groundhog at night and I was more than a little surprized. Anyone ever see this? Brian

[quote=By the way, a .270 round will go through a few inches of dirt and still have enough power to liquefy his brains.[/QUOTE]
and my 7mm rem mag can tickle em at about 500. my uncle has the farthest shot of the year mesured at 536 yards with a 300 weatherby mag 220 roundnose

Anybody got a good .270 load using the 90gr Sierra Varminters? I haven't been able to get much consistency with them.

I tried for 3 years to get a consistent 90gr 270Win load in a Winchester Mod 70. Dad's Stevens Mod 110L(?) didn't do too well either with the light 270 slugs. If you give up on the 90gr slugs, try out some 100 to 110gr slugs. They should provide a better BC and given their slightly longer length - match the 270's twist rate(twist on 270 is design for 130-140gr slugs). |
