This from a closely placed source. I just heard that Powell's name was going to be sent over soon. The word is that Steve Crawford, the Gov. legislative liaison, who is tight with Staback & Robb Miller , has convinced the Governor that they are going to need Staback's votes on some controversial (can you spell tax increase) issues coming up, so they need to support his man for the job. This is a travesty, and we need to get this info out to the public. Calls need to be made directly to the Governor's office particularly, but also to Senate leadership. Let's make their phones ring off the hook. The Governor's own sportsmen's advisory council did not even approve this guy as being qualified for the job, yet because of political meandering, the governor is going to appoint him anyways, and the sportsmen and women of this state be damned! Now is the time for you, your friends and family, and any other sportsmenn you know to step up to the plate. Now is the time to show the Governor, and his minions that they can't take the PA hunter for granted. Send a letter, an email, or better yet make a call! Pass this on to anyone who will take the time to take action. Do not pass on this. Do not think someone else will take care of this. http://www.governor.state.pa.us/governor/cwp/view.asp?a=1117&q=437853&governorNav=| Contact your state senator at the same time. They are the ones that need to vote to appoint this unqualified person. Let them know you don't like this backroom dealing. There is a published promise by the Governor for how these selections are made. Make them hold the Governor accountable ! http://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/...tors_alpha.cfm Phone calls are best. Written letters are better than email. Whatever you do - act! If asked, support Jay Delany for the Region 7 Commission Seat. More information: I was emailed by a well placed, 100% reliable person about the contents of the above post. So the accuracey is not in question, or I would not have posted it. About a year ago the call went out for a replacement for the Region 7 Game Commissioner. Several people showed up and interviewed. Of them were this lawyer Powell and Jay Delaney. A select group form those applying went for interviews with the Governors Sportsmens Advisory Board. Jay Delanys name was recommended as the most qualified - and submitted to the Governor. Powell was rated not qualified. Jay Delany was interviewed by Sect'y D of the DCNR. This is a requirement by the Governor. He again was recommended to the Governor. Sometime close to the election last fall, accusations of improper meddeling started to surface. At was alledged that Rep staback was pushing for Powell. His allie in this was his former G&F Committee Staffer Rob Miller, who was now liasion for the Governor to the Sportsmens Advisory Board. Staback and Miller lobbied the governor and State Sentaor Fumo... yes the same one just indited. Fumo supposedly sought the lobbing services of a sitting federal judge in Philly to pressure the Governor. So now it has come full circle. Powell's name is being sent to the senate. The qualified candidate is overlooked. Who is Powell? No one knows. no one knows if he even hunts. We certainly do not know if he has had any positive contributions to the outdoors or for the betterment of hunting. Jay Delany does though. They have been covered in both the electronioc and paper press. Numerous times. Stand up for what is right. Make those calls and send those letters. Support the QUALIFED CANDIDATE - SUPPORT JAY DELANY! |

I'm not personally familiar enough with this stuff to know whether this post is a bunch of BS or a legitimate warning. Anyone offer any insight?

Moved to the hunting forum, we might as well discuss the claims.

Send those letters and make the calls. All reports (from those talking to the governors staff) indicate sportsmen are really stepping up to the plate.
The senate comes back to work on the 16th. I would look for this issue to be resolved and sent forward by then. Now is the time to stand up and be heard. Read through the link above. The bottom line is this. No one can get information on Powell. The information contained in the link is from individuals that are involved in one fashion or another, or closely linked to them. Delaney on the other hand is a known quanity. He is a professional fire fighter, actually a captain. He is a hunter. He has been going and testifing at the game commission meetings for years for himself and for Pheasants forever. He plans, and conducts youth hunts for PF and has done so for several years. He is involved in habitat projects on private and public land. Not just once in a while, but as something that he does on a regular basis. Most importanly, he got the recommendation not due to political influence. He got it based on his answers in numerous interviews. When asked why he wanted the job he said: ' I want to represent the average hunter. I am not a lawyer or a business person with a adgenda. I am a hunter that wants to make sure hunting is as good as it can be in Pennsylvania. Now, and for future generations to come.' A call or a letter to the governor is what is important now. A call or letter to your senator is just as important. The next week or two are going to be critical. Thanks Bluetick |
