Never really heard of anyone hunting frogs. I spose that you could. You might want to check with the PGC to make sure there aren't any special restrictions (I don't think there are). To combat snakes, you may want to take a .22 handgun with some snakeshot, and possibly invest in snake boots.
//EDIT: I see you're in NY. I'd check the NY state game regs about hunting. Probably not so much the PGC. |

22's take frogs all day, however you could even use an airgun. they're not very tough.
If you feel as if snakes will be a danger, than consider carrying a small shotgun, taurus judge or any handgun with snakeshot. |

Whin I was little I used to take frogs with my Red Ryder BB gun. It skinned them and took them home and my mom would fry them up with flour and butter. Fun to shoot with a tasty treat at the end.

Hunting frog either with a high power pellet or a .22 is a waste of time, Frogs sink when shot.
Read the regulations of the place you intend to go, but generally you fish frog with a hook and a some thing red or that simulates a fly. A little bit of red on a hook will get the frogs jumping for them, just place the hook a few inches from them and they jump right on it.

Make yourself a nice gig pole. Pvc works well. Attach a barb or prongs. You can also rig it with piano wire, which will also be good for snake huntin (we used them in California to catch and fry up rattlers at the range).
Most of my BullFrog shootin is now with a bow......feels like cheatin with the gig or pistol.

I find nothing more fun than gigging frogs man its fun!! But actually shooting them with a .22 is a lot of fun!! but you can just catch them with fishing tackle. I have done all of the suggestions because i love frog legs! also when i was in areas that a .22 was too loud i used my pellet pistol!
