Default HOGUE grip not fitting!! AAGGH!!!!

just bought a hogue "monogrip" for my smith and wesson j frame revolver.
seems not to be fitting...as i glide the handle into the grip the Butt seems to be too large for the bottom and is stretching the grips apart..
anyone have any experience with these? is they a trick to it? or am i just a moron?

not sure about the j frame grips, but some of the houge semi-auto grips come with a removable shim in them....see if theres a small triangular piece of plastic in there that may be causing the gap...if so...remove it.
