Default Pitted slide worth refinish?

Bought an old S&W 39-2. Honestly bought it on a whim, and was pretty sure i was going to trade it, but my girl likes it, so I started thinking... always dangerous.

The gun's not in bad shape, just well used. Bore is bright and the rifling looks sharp; don't have the background, but I'm guessing it's an oft carried, never fired police gun. I can replace the grips and make it look better, but the two biggest cosmetic problems are scratches on the blued frame, and some pitting on the slide. I know I can have the slide reblued either in spots or completely, but how do you remove the pitting? Grind it off? How much material do you have to remove (the pitting seems really light, you can't feel it with a finger)? And how do you handle where the rounds bits meet the flats on the side?

I have no interest in doing this myself, I'm just wondering how it's done, how much work it is and whether it's worth it.

If the pits are really light you can have the slide and frame blasted and then matte blued or have a spray on finish applied. Gun Kote and Norrells are both nice and not expensive.

Smooth it with 1000 grit wet/dry paper. 1500 will mirror sheen it.

You can then reblue...or I really suggest.....

Hard chrome
