Question trouble shooting the M1 grande rifle

I have juist gotten a M1 Grande made by springfield armory. serial number reads june of 1942. the barrel has been changed to the .308. this rifle was used by a member of the third army rifle team. I tried to load the regular clips with 308 ammo but the clip will not go all the way down. I have 15 old clips, two will go in and most will not. could someone tell me what is wrong?

Take a read from this thread from the fourms site of the CMP.........

might be a problem with the case rim thickness and the en block clips.

good luck and I hope this helps

It sounds like you have a fussy Garand. Post some pics of the issue.

While it may be rifle of grande qualifications..........it is a Garand, not a grande.

Now to your problem. Are all the clips the same? I bought some chinese clips from CTD a few years agao and they are junk! I had the same problem you describe. All my other clips work just fine.

Non-GI clips can be an issue. If you are loading the clips by hand, you gotta make sure you get them all in there right, or the clip won't slide into the rifle easily.

Does your Mag have the spacer in it? They're yellow from the ones I've shot.

All rims must be to the back of the clip. After loading gently push the tips of your rounds on the shooting bench to make sure they are seated in the clip and there are no bullet tips extending to far out.
