Need advice, scope won't sight in

I would check that both rings are the same height. A previous post mentioned raising the front of the scope to make it shoot higher. The REAR should be raised(same as iron sights). I would try the advice of cycling the adjustment through its limits,first.

I had a friend whose scope was shooting 5 inches right and he was maxed out on the windage to the left.

So we tried the obvious first.

we ran the turret all the way (up and down for yours) left and right 2 or 3 times and gently tapped on the turret when we maxed it out.

Sounds stupid but it fixed my friends problem without spending any more money or wasted time.

Should take 5 min. max.
If it doesn't work, no harm, no foul.

The OP has a fixed power scope.

With a variable scope, before sighting in, you should run the turret all the way in one direction, but be CAREFUL. If you hit the end too hard, you could damage it. Once you've runn to the end, run it back to the other end and count every click. Say, 150 clicks. Now run it back half way, in this example 75 clicks.

Complete this process for both windage and elevation and you now have the center of the scope. Begin sighting in and make adjustments from there.

Shim the front up with a with a piece of plastic cut from a heavy trash bag slid under the scope. Make sure your rings are evenly torqued and the gaps are eyeball close to being even. If its still low, shim the back down. price: Free.

you never had to shim a scope? the plastic bag wont scratch a scope like metal shims and you get a ball park on what thickness the shims need to be. Then cut good nylon shims that thickness.

There's a hack for this situation. Shooting low, you need to raise the front end of the scope up. To keep using these rings, you could try shimming the front site. If this were a high end centerfire, I wouldn't recommend this, but with a rimfire, I've done it with success.

Remove the scope from the rings. Cut one or two half moon shims that will fit into the bottom of the front ring. You can cut these from a Pepsi can. Try one shim first, then add the second shim if needed. They seem thin, but you'd be surprised they'll raise the POI. 4" is a lot, but maybe you can find the right combination of rings and shims to work for you.

I can't get my head around this. If it was iron sights I agree. How does pointing the scope higher to the sky in relation to the bore make it shoot higher? Seems like the opposite to me. Now I have never had to do anything other then use my bore sighter to get on paper and I never ran out of adjustment.

The OP is already at the limit of his adjustment. Raising the front of the scope will only make the situation worse. He needs to raise the back of the scope. This is what we do when we use a 10 or 20 MOA mount on long range rifles.
