Need gunsmith for M1A trigger job
Any recommendations? I would take it to John Robinson, but that means going to Claytons. Won't happen

Re: Need gunsmith for M1A trigger job
Greetings,
Are you pretty familiar with how all the parts of the FCG interface together? Do you feel confident to take the assembly down to each individual part and put it back together correctly? If so, it's not too hard to significantly improve the pull; not necessarily by making it much lighter (this can be unsafe), but by making it much smoother.
IF you feel up to the job and have a good set of hand tools, stones and files, I can give you some specific info. BUT, I don't want you to get in over your head and end up having to purchase any parts that got messed up. No disrespect, I just have no idea of your familiarity and experience.
The basic idea is to smooth out all the rough areas of contact between the mating surfaces of the parts, WITHOUT changing any angles AND without going through the surface hardening layer. Let me know and I can make some suggestions. There are also some "upgrade" parts available (pins) that really help.
A great book that goes through this all (and the entire weapon) is Jerry Kuhnhausens' "US .30 cal Gas Operated Service Rifles", Shop Manual Volumes 1 and 2 (both are in one book). Definitely a must have for any Garrand or M14 owner. Good luck!
Regards, Jim

If you're willing to ship:
http://www.m-14parts.com/M14%20Parts...p%20Rates.html
http://www.hueygunner.com/about-us.html
Both are M14-specific builders with good reputations in the M14 world.
