Perhaps this isn't the precise model needed for this scope but I was just trying to give a general alternative. It's cheap and should work. At least worth a try, in my view.
I am going to buy one, but for a different project. That kind of clamp is the basis of a good GoPro mount.

For my rifle I need a section of rail to mount a red dot.

Thanks for the info, now I can start getting some estimates from local smiths.

A number of military Mausers and older rifles are case hardened and a bitch to drill straight. Its easy to get an oblong hole. Sometimes you have to grind the outer surface to get the drill to bite. Find someone who knows what he is doing.

What kind of rifles are you looking to tap? Are they collectable? The days of drilling, tapping, and sporterizing are over. You could spend a lot of money to make your rifles less valuable. Better to trade it for something set up like you want.

That said, its you rifle. You can do what you want to it.

A Winchester 94 (post 64). No particular value to it.

Between what you spend to have it drilled and taped and the amount you are going to devalue a pre 64 mod 94 Winchester it will be more expensive in the long run than a later model that is already scoped. You do know they have to be side mounted because of top ejection, don't you?

A long eye relief scope or a reflex sight would fit in front of the ejection port of this 1964 model (with no finish left on the receiver). At this point I am looking at options.
    Taping is one option.
Another is a peep sight like on Empty Mag's 94.
A third option is Basil Pearson's no drill rail.

    I wouldn't rely on tape.

I charge $25.00 per hole, drilled and tapped.
Hardened receivers are easily penetrated with a carbide center drill, not "ground" and all holes are done with a real milling machine, not a "smiffy" or a drill press.
Mounting the telescope is included in the cost of the holes-
I'm not soliciting the job, only giving you an example of what I would charge.

I've ordered the Williams Fool Proof peep sight.
I will let you know later just how foolproof it is
