Default Home made side charging upper.

Dpms slick side upper, stag carrier, easier than I thought!

Finished product, 300whisper/blackout side charger for $18 more than the parts cost to build!

Nice, I wanted to try this with a slick side upper. Those DPMS ones are extremely thick. However, I opted for an LAR upper and carrier.

Thanks, I ended up making another for my neighbor yesterday, quite easy once indexed in the mill. I actually think it fits better than the mega or lar, I just wish it had a plug in the back but having 2 ways to cycle the action can be a plus as well. Going to cerakote them in a few weeks when we get back from our Pa Xmas trip. The only real pain doing this is the bolt carrier, it's hard as hell to cut and tap!

Where did you get the bolt knob?

I'd love to have a sidecharged upper without a gas system, making it legal for hunting.

    Nice work!

Just a 1/4x28 machine screw and made the knob out of a piece of bar stock aluminum

Thanks, when we finally move up there I may produce them for people. You can also put a adjustable on/off/suppressed gas block and turn it off for hunting if the law says ok. Or you can attach a plugged block for when you hunt.

You will need to have something that isn't able to be switched back to semi auto in any way while hunting. Been through this a time or two and have talked with PGC in Harrisburg.

For example, I used my SKS a few times. The Yugo SKS has a gas system that allows you to switch it on or off but the PGC says that's a no no because you could easily switch it back to semi in the field. Solution, take gas piston out and leave it at home.

Don't know what kind of method you would have to devise that would work with the DI AR platform and not be 100% permanent though.

Quite simple, just buy a extra gas block and plug it, and then get a yhm or similar hand guard that can be removed with two screws. Most gas blocks attach with two set screws, so 4 screws to switch back and forth. Remove hand guard loosen two screws and remove block an gas tube, attach plugged block. Reverse for a semi for not hunting.
