1858 Remingtons are among the better designs. The Colt designs had an open top with a mechanical joint, which wasn't as rigid as the 58 Remington.
If I'm not mistaken, the 1858 also has a quick-change feature associated with the cylinder. You know to use overshot wadding or grease over the bullets, right? If not, your first chain-fire isn't far off. |

My loads consist of 15-25 grains of pyrodex p .451 round balls, greased over, with a #10 cci cap igniting the charge. Yes, the cylinder is quick to change. Only takes a couple seconds to swap out.
