Default My first rifle...M44 pics inside

Stopped by American Arms and Ammo yesterday and a new toy followed me home.

I have never owned a rifle before, and wanted to get something inexpensive to learn with and make into a project. Nothing major, just going to refinish the stock and clean her up...make her look nice.

Anyways, it is a Mosin-Nagant M44. Made at Izhevsk the best I can tell. All numbers match, and the bore looks nice. Should make for some fun.

Well, onto some quick shots of how she sits now...

Let me know what you think!

Nice find, Laminated too. Should clean up nicely. What kind of ammo are you gonna feed her? Good luck.

Looks nice!

Welcome to the forum!
I've been bitten by the surplus bug myself. Picked up an SKS for Christmas and now all I think about is wood and steel!

Only thing holding me back is that I have no surplus cash!

Enjoy that Mosin!

How much worse is the M44 compared to a 91/30. I though the 91/30 was quite enjoyable to shoot...

Anyways nice Rifle there

Nice mosin. They are really fun rifle's to shoot (huge flash, cannon-like boom) but I'm not sure it would be the greatest rifle to "learn" on.

They both shoot the same 7.62x54R and both have the same type of comfy steel butt plate

Since the barrel of the 91/30 is longer I would say that the M44 would bite more.

To the OP, I would suggest the 147grn light ball ammo. AIM has 1987 Hungarian for .107 per round delivered (SE PA).

My first rifle was an M44. It was also the first rifle I ever shot. He'll be allright.
