Here's one:
![]() 1901 Sparkbrook ![]() 1901 Sparkbrook Action Body Closeup This rifle began life as a MLM Mk 1* manufactured by RSAF-Sparkbrook in 1901. The first change was done in 1904 by RSAF-Enfield, when the rifle was changed to an SMLE ConD II. That's where the sliding charger was added, making the rifle roughly functionally equivalent to a "short" CLLE. Next, the rifle was changed in 1908 by one of the Naval Ordnance Depots, where it was "upgraded" to ConD I**. Lastly, in 1912 further minor changes were made to make it closer to the Mk III SMLE pattern. The rifle is equipped with volley sights.

This rifle is a MLE Mk 1 manufactured by British Small Arms and Motorcycles in 1896. I call it my "short Long Lee" as it has been expertly shortened to a 25.5" barrel for NZ Service Rifle competition, whilst retaining the proportions of the original length.
In contrast with the Mk 1 above, this Mk 1 has retained its cocking piece-mounted safety and bolt cover. However, the forestock and bayonet bar lack the cleaning rod hole, which is what distinguishes a Mk 1 from a Mk 1*. Presumably these features were lost at some point, perhaps when the rifle was shortened for competition. I have the proper bayonet for this rifle; but, as a consequence of the barrel taper, the muzzle ring of the bayonet will not fit over the muzzle, because the diameter back where the muzzle now is is too great. This rifle was acquired from New Zealand gunsmith Robbie Tiffen. It is equipped with volley sights. I really should find a stacking swivel & screw for it. Anybody have a spare stacking swivel & screw ? ![]() 1896 BSA & M Co. ![]() 1896 BSA & M Co. action closeup Regards, Walt

This rifle is a MLE Mk 1 manufactured by the Royal Small Arms Factory-Enfield in 1896. I call it my "carbine Long Lee" as it has been expertly shortened to a 25.5" barrel for NZ Service Rifle competition, however with the forestock shortened with a "carbine" profile.
As with the second rifle above, his Mk 1 has retained its cocking piece-mounted safety and bolt cover. However, the forestock does include the cleaning rod hole, which is what distinguishes a Mk 1 from a Mk 1*. Too bad the forestock was shortened . The little magazine chain is missing. The front volley sight remains, but the rear volley sight has been removed. Alas, this leaves two unsightly holes. Anybody got a rear volley sight assembly with screws? This rifle was also acquired from New Zealand gunsmith Robbie Tiffen. ![]() 1896 Enfield ![]() 1896 Enfield action closeup Regards, Walt

I had to bring this thead back now that I have a good pic to add-
My 2A Isapore @500yds. ( shooting at an 300rd target) We had a any-any long range match at the ALL Navy matches this week and I had to break it out. I never got the sling right so I just shot it free hand and well when I held tight it hit tight.
