That marking that you see is a US Army stamp, and it is a flaming bomb also referred to as the "Shell & Fire". The Shell & fire insignia is probably the oldest insignia used in the US Army (dates back to 1832). The division of the US Army was called the US Ordnance Corp. (established in 1812). This was their branch plaque.

Later on in 1834, the US Ordnance Corp. merged with Artillary, and the Crossed Cannons were added to the insignia.
I think you would have this stamped on the butt stock somewhere in you look.
I know my uncles M1 Carbine does, so do a lot of Springfield M1's and other military rifles.

Companies like LWRC and Springfield Armory still use the insignia today. Shown here.

You need a few more AR lowers, lol. I was just looking at some M1 Carbines this weekend, I definitely need to get one. Very nice firearms!

Good idea. I love the crossed cannons.
That would look pretty sweet.
Be sure to post some pics....

I am thinking of either the TRP or Operator with full rail, for my next handgun.
How do you like yours?

When i was at Ron's last week, I wanted to rip the AK box open and take a peek man.

Very nice!
Although, I'm more of 5.45 guy, I still think I should pick nice basic WASR10 before too late, like I was last time back in 94...

And I think Im going too before not too long here..

Ronnie - Thanks for answering the question about the ordinance symbol. You did it much better than I could have.

I don't have any plans really for the lowers. Just decided to buy a few "just in case." I actually still have a PAFOA lower that I need to build. But it was either build that, or buy some lowers. The lowers won out.

You should have! I wouldn't have cared if you peeked at it. Ron opened the box when he got it anyway to log it in.

And while I like the 5.45 as well, I have too many calibers already. And the SKSs and now the AK are both 7.62x39, so that is good.

I think I am going to buy an AK kit and build my next one. Should be fun....

No worries.
Sorry I can't help you with the other numbers.
Maybe check out some M1 Carbine forums.
