Default 9X18 Mak. Where's the ammo

I have one of those little PA-63's, U know the ones advertised in Shotgun News and such from J+G. It's in 9X18 Makorov, two tone and very inexpensive (a police or military used gun). When I got it I was very pleased with the condition, and even though it "bites" me when I shoot it ( I now have a leather glove that I keep in it's case) it will easily fit in a pocket. I was certainly not expecting this short barreled puny cheapo to be very accurate. I was given a bag of what I think was old military ammo with the gun. I also purchased some Winchester (not very cheap), and 2 other brands of new factory ammo. At the range at 25 yards (car hood rest), I started shooting the free "old" stuff. I WAS BLOWN AWAY! The groups I was shooting (one 7 round clip at a time) didn't exceed 2 inches! Most were in the 1 1/4-1 1/2 range. I was having so much fun shooting this baby, that before I realized it I had used all the free "old" ammo. When I began to shoot the "store bought" commercial stuff, the groups turned into about 8 inchers. All the stuff I have found since is the same. The bullets on the old stuff were long, shaped like a FMJ 9mm. all the stuff I can find since has tiny looking very round bullets. I'm thinking the old stuff was much heavier. I've heard of 110 and even 125 grain. I wish I would have saved at least ONE live round from that first batch. Anyone have one of these Maks that has had a similar experience? Found any good shooting ammo?

Try AIM Surplus; good people to deal with:

http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/c...8_Makarov.html

Fax them a copy of your DL as proof of age along with your CC number and exp date and you're GTG.

As to what to order, it's six one and half a dozen of the other. If you don't keep Silver Bear sealed up in an ammo can, the zinc plating on the steel case will start to oxidize and develop a whitish powder. The lacquered case Brown Bear doesn't do that.
