Default Re: My Sexy, Spanish Milsurp FR8 - Bolt Action 7.62x51

    Had it out briefly today.

Wanted to try and see where it's hitting on paper at 100 yards, but my morning was a bit of a clusterfrack, and I forgot my spotting scope at home. Then there were of group of shooters at the range which compounded the fact that I had no easy way to see where I was hitting without either walking up and holding everyone up, or bothering people to check my targets.

I also forgot which aperture was set for what and the first five rounds didn't even hit the paper. (cereal box opened up)
I got out my phone and looked up the info and the "open" or "notch" position is where I should have had the sight set for 100 yards.

Tried again and got three hits high and left. Meh - I'll go back when I have a scope and can take my time. No sense wasting money sending rounds downrange for no good reason.

I seem to get rounds hanging up when I close the bolt and do not do so with some authority. I don't need to SLAM it closed, but if done too slowly the round jams up on the feed ramp. Not sure if it's an ammo type issue, a gun-specific issue, or a common thing.

    2015 gravel...

Comparison shot taken with another member's Mauser to give an idea of a before/after in terms of the overall conversion of these rifles.

I just noticed they have different grips. I'm not a Mauser expert, so I assume they were converted from a different "version".

Swedish Mauser on top, so yes, different versions.

I just stumbled upon this thread while searching out a FR8 for myself.
I know the source of both the FR8 and the Marlin you have pictured with it earlier in the thread, wish I would have had the cash for those pieces.
Good to see you are still enjoying them!

Yeah, the best thing for me to do is just not even look at anything he posts for sale. LOL!
Certainly two of my favorite purchases.

I really debated shooting the FR8 at all because it appeared to have never been fired. That wasn't the claim, but that's how it looked to me.

I waited a long time to find one locally at a time when I had the money to buy it. Prior to this one I had passed up a few others because I didn't have the money at the time. None were as nice as this one so I'm glad it worked out the way it did even if I paid more for it.

    Fun little rifle.

Just got one of these last week & put up a thread. Cruzans told me to look for an ongoing one, so here I am. Figured I'd post my pics.

Mine is shooting a bit high out to 100 yards, so I've been oiling up the front sight in anticipation of breaking it free from rust. All of my 308s have been small rifles, so this one doesn't seem to kick any worse than the others. It does however hurt like a SOB if I'm down shooting prone with it.

Anyways, after getting this, I may have caught the milsurp bug.
