Sorry Brian, I forgot to add the "I think" part to my statement above. I know it's an 03m from poking around on different sites and looking things up. I'm awaiting delivery of the Brophy book to gain a bit more knowledge. I appreciate the time that you have taken to reply.

My biggest question is if indeed this rifle is an overhaul, why does every part that I see match? I would imagine that during an overhaul, parts would be replaced without concern of manufacturer, just as long as they all worked. As far as the bolt being parked and not blued, I was under the impression that the early 1903 were blued and later ones were parked. With an 03m I can understand a mix of stamped and milled parts as is the case with this rifle, but 1903m rifles were like that from the factory.

I'm really not trying to start an argument with anyone, just trying to learn some history of this rifle, that, and I'm stubborn.

Nice. Judging from the serial number, it's 1942 production year?

they were done after the war, after they had been declared obsolete.
more care was taken. there was no rush to get them back in service. and most times the only part replaced was the barrel.

the a3's originally had blued bolts as well. their smaller parts were often blued, though later in the war they were parked as well.

i've seen it on the net, but never in written print, that the punch prick mark in the center of the ordnance mark on the barrel is an indicator of an overhaul.
