Default M-1 Carbine

I just picked up a M-1 Carbine yesturday at a local Gun show.. it's a Universal M-1 ~ I've heard some people don't like the Universal's but in all reality their no differant than any other of the M-1 Carbine Rifles, truth be known their actully a little better than some of the early one's..

My Dad had one years ago that was made during the second World War and "Rock - Ola Music Company" made his, a company that made jukeboxes but they made a damn fine M-1 rifle for our Soldiers in Europe as well.

So don't be fooled by something because it has Universal stamped on it, it's a fine Rifle just like the rest of them and I'm very proud to have it. NICE WEAPON..

nice looking gun thanks for sharing, what did you pay if you don't mind me asking?

Is the M1 made by the music company still around--any chance for pics? I love seeing the old guns that where made in wartime by a non-gun company I hope I can find one someday.

I gave $400.00 for mine.

Sure there are some Rockola M-1's out there, but their very rare, that being the case their very expesive. But they don't look any differant than any other, they just have a differant name on their weapons.. Where mine say's Universal a Rockola will have their name.

Yeah, nice looking weapon. I was just down in North Carolina about a week ago for a firearms training course. The people I met there were very friendly and hospitable.

I was in Moyock, N.C. at the Blackwater Worldwide training facilities. I took a 5 day pistol and carbine training course and received a certificate from them. I might be going back next year for more training, we'll see.

Take care,

that's not exactly true.
there are early and late universals.
one has a single operating spring, the other a dual spring setup.
this part i always get backwards(so i'll not say which is which) but one of them is pretty problem-matic on a regular basis. while the other isn't too bad, if you get lucky.
but neither are really up to gi specs, as gi parts are not a drop in fit for them. the parts will fit them, but they need hand fitted.

there is no way however that a universal, any universal is better than a usgi cabine.

i would take an import marked gi over a commerical any day.
but a commerical is better than none at all.
enjoy.

I hear ya, And I can agree to certain degree, I've had mine taken apart already and I can tell you I've got the duell spring, the kind everyone tends to scoff, but as I had noted, I got a good one so far, if it turns out to be less than what I want, I'll go trade it in on one I do want.

There were some G.I. M-1 Carbine's at the Gun Show yesturday, but everyone I had looked at were in very poor shape, I looked at one that I would be even afraid to fire because of it's condition.

The one I bought I believed was a good deal, since bringing it home I've taken it all the way down to inspect it, cleaned it, put it all back together and taken it to the woods to test it.

I am very happy with my buy. I would like to find an old Rockola in just as good of shape, if I find one, I will own it.
