Default What's your best and/or favorite knife

Ok, I've searched through the forum and the closest I found was the thread about your carry setup. Even at that, not too many people posted what their carry knives were.

I am looking for a good knife to last me for a while. I've always had plenty of crappy knifes with poor blades and locking mechanisms, etc.

I'd prefer a folder with a clip so it's work-friendly but is sturdy and reliable to take to the woods with.

So, my question is. What is your favorite knife? Or, what is the best knife you know of?

What should I look for in a blade? Is there a certain type of metal to look for?

Any information you can provide would be most excellent. My only ideas are the Spyderco Waved Endura that JustinM suggested in his carry thread. Any comments on this knife? Good for deer gutting?

Thanks

I own 2 SOG Flash II's, and always bring up the recommendation. I'm extremely happy with them, the stainless (shiny) blade was a give from a couple years ago, and almost 1 year I bought the tiger stripe flash II. They stay sharp, are extremely durable, light, comfortable, and the assisted opening is also nice to have.

Belive it or not, my favorite knife is actually an original Leatherman tool!

Mine has been through hell, and still holds a great edge, is extremely useful, and best of all, is easy to carry, either in a .45 ammo pouch, or nestled next to my wallet in a back pocket.

My second favorite is the old reliable, Swiss Army Knife.

I too carry a Leatherman tool virtually everwhere I go. Sometimes I also carry my Columbia River Pikes Peak.

Wouldnt want that survival knife to break if it was ever needed.

I've been carrying Gerber knives for about 10 years (AR 3.5's for the last 4 years), but I'm looking at getting another Benchmade as I lost the last one I had and it was one heck of a knife for the money.

I have one of those, it's not really suitable for everyday carry, but it's a tough knife. For fixed blades, I really like my Benchmade Rant DPT.

I second the SOG Flash II, I carry one every day...the assisted opening spring did break on mine after about a year...but I still love it!

I deal with the sheeple on a daily basis and even a folding knife was out of the question out on the belt. I upgraded from a leatherman micra (still on the keychain), to the Juice CS4, and finally to the Juice Pro. It's a full leatherman but had a much more friendly look that matched any dress style.

Leatherman makes high quality stuff.

My daily carry is a Kershaw Blur with a tanto style blade. I've had it for 2 years, cut plenty of nasty stuff with it, and it is still razor sharp. Well worth the money IMHO.
