Default Buying guns in Canada

Got legal questions:

Is it possible to purchase a gun in Canada and legally bring it back to PA?

If so, what is involved in doing so?

Is there a legal way to purchase a gun from Canada and have it shipped directly to PA?

It seems like one heck of a hassle with their firearms act of 1995.

Out of my curiosity... what possible firearm would be worth international import issues that you can't already find in the United States?

They appear to have very strict firearm laws... 10rd max pistol magazines, no full auto or suppressors, heck even .25 and .32 calibers are banned. Mace and stun guns are also on the prohibited list.

As I am in Canada and I am a Canadian and I am also a federal peace officer in Canada, maybe I can help. The only reason that I can think of for buying a handgun in Canada is that it is an antique or is of some significant value that is unavailable in the US. That being said most of the firearms that are for sale in Canada originate in the US save for a few manufacturers that ship to the US in which case you are still better off buying in the US because of the free trade agreement. Now if you are hell bent on buying a gun(s) in Canada you can do so and you will find the information that you need on this web site: http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/. On the left side you will find a block that says visitors/non-residents and this will further explain the laws. FOR GOD'S SAKE DO NOT BRING A HANDGUN INTO CANADA WITHOUT THE PROPER PAPERWORK or you will find yourself on the fast track to very large legal trouble that neither Canadian authorities or Homeland Securtity take as funny. I hope that this has been of help to you and if you have any further questions just drop me a line and I will see what I can do for you. Chimo

You would need to jump through an assortment of hoops. I brought a gun in from England about twenty years ago (Wow! Was it really that long ago?) and as I recall, I had to deal with ATF, State and Customs. The shipper had to deal export paperwork on his end. The process was neither constly or complicated, it just wasn't quick.

Canadians get some guns that we don't. Certain "non-sporting" firearms cannot be imported into the US for civilian use but Canadians can buy them. I don't think I could import them from Canada either, though.

Not handguns I'm looking at.

Honestly, I asked because while poking around I found a Canadian gun shop that has a few SVT-40s and they are selling them for $200 each. Seeing as how I can't find one around here AT ALL, and online the only ones I see sell for $1000, it may be worth the hassle.

The same place had an SKS for $150. SKS's are going for $400+ these days in brick and mortar shops (though you can sometimes find them for around $300 online).

In any case it was really just a thought. If it's really that much of a hassle I may not have the means to do it anyway. I can't possibly justify paying a grand though on a firearm.

I've been freeloading without registering long enough, and this topic (namely in connection with the attached website) has interested me.

Apparently Norinco makes and imports a ton of knockoffs of otherwise expensive firearms (Sigs, M14s, etc) and sells them dirt cheap in Canada (apparently they're an ATF no-no south of the border).

http://www.marstar.ca/gf-norinco/index.shtm

If anybody can figure out a way to get them into the states, I'm all ears.

Forget about bringing Chinese firearms, SKS, for example, into the U.S.

On the other hand, nice 1950's Russian SKS's are available in the Toronto area for under $200. They have much better wood than the Chinese ones.

Reread inthedark's posting for procedural help.

What's the deal there? 15 years ago I could walk into a Roses Dept Store in my hometown and buy a Norinco SKS for $69.

If it's military surplus, I'm pretty sure that you need to get a licensed importer to bring one into the country. Non-military firearms, you can either carry in yourself, after doing the paperwork or have shipped to a friendly FFL.

Your other opition is to hide the gun in your car and have a friend go through line right before you and put a couple pounds of cocaine in his car. While they're tearing his car apart, you can slip through unnoticed.
