I prefer ear plugs. Seems like everytime I wear Sound Attenuation Muffs (we used to called them "Mickey Mouse Ears" when I was in the navy), I'll knock 'em around or set 'em down and forget where I left them.
The soft rubber ear plugs with the rubber cord between them is, IMHO, the most convenient. |

I have a set of plugs with a valve in them that closes when noise hits a certain db.Got them at Wal Mart about 8yrs ago, they work fine. You have to cover the hole in them with your fingers to make sure they are seated properly. Roy, when I was on the flight line we were required to wear plugs and Mickey Mouse ears, that was 20+ yrs ago.

generic run of the line 3 bucks a dozen in the ear plugs are my pick of choice (i like the orange ones). I find anything else is just overkill in price for the same functions.

I love the kinds on a rope. If I can't get those, I'll take the foam ones any day over muffs. My glasses don't allow for too good a seal, and anything over a 22 (or even indoor 22) can bug my ears. But I'm real sensitive to sound after a bad experience with jacked ears and permanent damage.
I never heard of ear plugs that work like those muffs. I'd be really interested if they actually have em that work as well as regular plugs.

Haven't used them first hand but spoke with a few folks who have and they love 'em. Very similar to the electro muffs in ops but fit in the ear and quite a bit more pricey. Somewhere around $170 but the prices seem to be falling.
I prefer plugs for rifle since I can't get a proper face/cheek weld without pushing muffs off my ear. I like the corded plugs for the same reason why I like corded soap For pistol, especialy pistol matches the electro muffs rule!

I've been using "Pura-Fit 6800" disposable foam ear plugs. I got a box of them from the milling crew at my last job, (road milling machines are louder than any gun I've heard) work great (the 50 cal going off inches from my ear didn't hurt) and can still hold a conversation. Left them in all day no problems. They do make a version with a cord too.
I use them when I plan on doing a long high speed motorcycle ride too. I don't wear full faced helmets. A box of 200 packs cost $22 here: http://store.pksafety.net/purfoamearby.html .

hi- had a problem with the cheapo foam plugs. didn't get a good seal in one ear and didn't realize it til I took them out. hearing loss was temporary, but from now on it's muffs for this shooter.
