Can anyone provide a resource to obtain a 10mm auto pistol and also
sources for 10mm ammo(the hot stuff)? As you know its not the easi- est pistol to find these days. Would like Glock 29 but would go for 20 if available. Would appreciate anyones input. Yes, I know they can be obtained from Glock but I understand that it takes considerable time. I would be willing to purchase a used pistol in good condition. 40user Last edited by 40user; October 6th, 2006 at 12:37 AM. |

If you want the best 10MM ammo...I suggest doubletap.
http://www.doubletapammo.com/php/catalog/index.php As far as 10mm pistols...there are other options beside Glock. Look into EAA's 10mm pistols as well. |

I got my G29 at Shyda's in Lebanon. I think I paid $499 for it but that was five years ago or more. They had several in stock when I bought mine.
Check them out. http://www.shydasgunshop.com/ As for ammo, I carry the Doubletap 180 grain Speer Gold Dot load. I used to carry Winchester Silvertips or Cor-Bons but I've recently gone over to Doubletap exclusively. I haven't bought 10mm range ammo in several years since I reload. I like Unique and AA#7 for powders and I load a 180 grain Rainier plated FMJ. I keep that load at just under 1000 fps since the plated FMJ's aren't supposed to be driven real fast. The most common factory ammo out there is Remington/UMC 180 grain FMJ's. CCI also makes a 200 grain FMJ in their Blazer line. |

I also second the double-tap ammo for the 10mm, I use them and Hornady's 10mm loads for practice.
I bought two cases of the original Norma 10mm loading about 5 years ago and that what I use for my carry loading. grizz |

DoubleTapp makes fantastic 10mm ammo, right up there with the original specs.
As per 10mm pistols, there are several makers to choose form, but several are no longer made. why buy a G29 if all you do is hammer the 10mm ammo down to 40SW specs with the short barrel? Kind of pointless. Dan Wesson currently makes a 10mm Auto like a 1911 Clock has the model 20, high capacity. Eaa Witness makes some very strong high quality 10mm autos, based on the CZ75 style action Tanfoglio also makes a fine 10mm, also like the above. the best current maker of a 10mm I would say is the EAA Witness 10mm, they have severral configurations. as per good, but discontinued 10mms: Colt Delta Elite in 10mm, Gold Cup in 10mm LAR Grizzly in 10mm S&W 1006 5", the 1016, and the 1076 shorter barrel. the 1006 and the 1076 were the FBI issue 10mm pistols, at the time of the bajor 10mm advancements, the S&W was the only gun out there that didn't break with regular practice. the G20 needed a redesign, they were breaking, and the Delta Elite wore out quickly with full power loads. I myself bought a S&W 3rd gen 1006, its like a hand rifle, the Doubletapp loads are something like 1600 fps out of a 4" G20, so add an inch worth of added barel for more oomph. and they are handsome too:-)

Hello JayBell,
I sure do like that big S&W 1006. Wow!!, I have always been a lover of S&W big pistols. I've had several .45 large frame S&W's. You may call me stupid as somehow I missed the 1006. May I ask you,is it still possible to find the 1006? I have heard many complaints(an awful lot)about the EAA 10mm pistols and also complaints about the company's customer service. I heard that Kimber makes one but I figured really big bucks involved there. Actually I have long since decided to go with the Glock 20 vs. the 29 for obvious reasons we are all aware of. I have dealt with S&W and their gun- smiths for many years and they have always treated me extremely well. I have never had a problem. I've even had S&W gunsmiths call me at home (after they have done custom work) to see if I was pleased and check on how the firearm was performing. I would definitely choose a 1006 though over a Glock 20. Thank you very much for your post. That 1006 is a real beautiful pistol sir. 40user |
