Default Taking pistol on vaccation?

Hello,

I've been nosing around on the site for awhile, just signed up, so hello. I can't seem to find any straight answer online about a CCW permit holder taking their firearm across state lines. I will be going on my honeymoon and will be traveling from PA into a few New England states. I would like to keep my pistol on me, but am unclear on the law.

Is there a definitive ruling or is it all subjective garbaly-gook, state to state?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I asked a similar question and several people gave me some very knowledgeable answers. Here is the link to the thread.

If you've got a PA permit, check the reciprocity of the states you plan on going through/stopping at. Theres sticky at the top with it, take a look

Well as someon who travels ALOT and is more than familiar with the travel laws, I can honestly say: Leave the gun at home. Sorry. Unless you want to leave it in the trunk locked up. You CAN get a non resident Carry Permit from Maine, New Hampshire and Connecticut,....and Vermont youre good to go with no permits,...BUT....BUT... if you get caught with a gun on you in New Jersey, New York, Massachusettes, or Rhode Island, you are good as sunk. Expect them to NOT be nice. I'd even go so far as to say you might end up with some jail time. Same for Maine, New Hampshire and Connecticut if dont get a CCW from them. None of these states honor "car carry" of any sort without a Permit. Im 100% serous in this. Its not worth it really to even try.
You may "drive thru without stopping" with a gun in your trunk locked up,..and thats about it.
If you dont have a permit....Id suggest spending your vacation in Vermont.

+1 Leave it at home and enjoy your trip. If you pay attention to where you go and what's going on around it you won't need it. If you are even thinking about Canada you MUST leave it at home...period. Canada doesn't allow handguns at all. No exceptions. For that matter, pepper spray is a no-no there too!

Id also like to point out, Maine, Connecticut, and New Hampshire DO offer a non resident CCW Permit. Check with me (PM) for more info as to where to get this info.
Rhode Island and Massachusettes also offer a Non-resident permit IF you have a good reason.

New Jersey...hahahaha...yeah right. They hardly even offer to NJ residents.
New York does NOT offer a non resident permit. New York and New Jersey hate gun owners, especially ones from out of state, the feeling is mutual.

Thank you for all the helpful input. I'm very thankful for having come across this site.

I'm a long-time rifle owner, and am new to ccw pistol carry. I know this question is redundant, (as its the state's call), but wouldn't it make more sense if this a federally regulated as oposed to state to state? Is this a constitutional issue, or just bureaucratic BS?

Thanks again for all the input, and I look forward to spending much quality time on the site.

As long as CCW is a State's Rights issue at least there will be some (or hopeful most) states where our gun rights are protected and CCW is allowed. If the Feds were to take over we could end up with New Jersey or DC style gun control nation wide. I'd rather take my chances with the states.
