How does this work

Recently a friend of mine asked if the Sig Sauer P220 Combat TB can be bought by a civilian? The gun shop said you have to prove that you are either active military or police force employee. My question is two fold: What happens to the weapon when the person leaves active duty, and why cannot a Military veteran not qualify to buy the handgun, if his background checkouts.

1. Gun shop policy
2. Stupidity on behalf of the employee.

Threaded barrels and high sights are not restricted in PA. Now if your friend wanted the suppressor to go with it, that is NFA.

Find a different dealer and order one.

WOW.....stay away from that gun shop as they have no idea what you are talkng about.

Anyone can buy a Sig P-220 combat. There is no restriction for police or military only!

If it has a threaded barrel, you would have to get the proper paper work, but you could buy it. I'm a police officer and I cannot outright buy a handgun with a threaded barrel, just because I'm a police officer.

What is the restriction on threaded barrels? I thought it was what would be threaded on would be the issue, not the barrel.

I think you are right, Azzy. Where is GunRunnersofPA when we need him. He did a transfer for me a couple of months ago and there was a P220 combat at his place waiting to be picked up. He'll know if there are restrictions on the threaded barrels.

i never heard of a threaded barrel making a gun NFA.. like azzy said anything u screw onto it is what you need the NFA stuff for.. they have threaded barrel H&K's at sportsmans warehouse.. you can buy threaded barrels online $100 and have them shipped to your door

My Walther P22 has a threaded barrel and there is even a threaded adapter extension available for it. Now, with that said...getting a can for it is another subject.

Any combination of parts from which a machine gun can be assembled if the parts are in the possession or under the control of a person;

Silencers and any part designed and intended for fabricating a silencer;

Short-barreled rifles;

Short-barreled shotguns;

Destructive devices; and,

"Any other weapon."

A few examples of destructive devices are:

Molotov cocktails;

Anti-tank guns (over caliber .50);

Bazookas; and,

Mortars.

A few examples of "any other weapon" are:

H&R Handyguns;

Ithaca Auto-Burglar guns;

Cane guns; and,

Gadget-type firearms and "pen" guns which fire a projectile by the action of an explosive.

Nowhere in there does it say a firearm with a threaded barrel. Hell, if you take the flash suppressor off an AR you have a threaded barrel. I agree, stay away from that gun shop. Now, if they can show you in black and white that so called law, please post it for the rest of us to become educated.\

For ithinkimamedic, doesn't your Uzi pistol have a threaded barrel? And it's perfectly legal.
