Does anyone know of a website where people post serial numbers of stolen firearms so that people could check before they buy a gun?

AR15.com just started a forum in their Equipment Exchange for stolen guns and info. It's not much, but its a start.

There is a site called hotgunz that is searchable by serial number.

If you get a great deal on a long gun at a yard sale or flea market, you run the risk that your great deal should have alerted you that it was likely stolen (which is another reason for you to shut up when the police ask you about possible crimes they think you committed, the seemingly innocent statement "hey, a guy was offering the Mini-14 for $100, of course I bought it, I could sell it the next day for 3 times that" can subject you to possible liability for "having reason to know it was stolen" as well as ATF interest in your intent to buy & sell guns without an FFL. So shut up, please.) I'd be pleased to have a resource where we could do our due diligence on our used gun purchases. I don't see much of a downside, even if crooks checked it first to see if their stolen gun had been reported yet, it doesn't give them any advantage over innocent purchasers that they don't have now. |

We've asked the Montgomery Twp. (MontCo) police to check SN's for us and they have. First time they came out to us and were friendly as can be. Second time I stopped by the station; They looked at me a bit funny but ran it anyway.

Type all your serial numbers in there and see if anything happens in the next 4 years.
