Default Yet another school shooting

This one happened today (10-2) in a one-room Amish school house in Lancaster county. Apparently it started as a hostage situation and the news is saying that several students have been shot. Another tragedy that, unfortunately, is going to give the anti-gun crown more "ammunition". Very sad...

I had just seen this on CNN too a few minutes ago, this is such a tragedy. Seems like we've had a lot of these lately.

WOW!! Three school shootings in less than one week!!

CLEARLY we need more gun regulation.

For example, allow teachers/janitors who have CCW permits carry in schools.

That way, the next wacko who walks into a school brandishing a weapon, will get a quick double-tap to the forhead.

Agreed. I can't believe that there are people in society that are troubled enough to do something like this. This certainly goes to show that it doesn't matter how big or how small a school is, there is always that risk.

Something certainly needs to be done. Unfortunately, I'm afraid that the overwhelming sentiment will be gun control. Popular opinion tends to look toward a supposed "easy fix", which to many is restricting the right to bear arms. More often than not, the seemingly most obvious fix, is the wrong one.

Many politicians and anti-gun lobbysts would rather try to cover up the problem, than actually solve it.

The sad fact is that no amount of laws would have stopped any of these.

Nope. When a person is willing to take the lives of others and then take their own.. there isn't anything written on paper than can prevent them from carrying out their actions. What we, as a society, need to do is turn our focus toward securing our schools. While inconvienient, metal detectors and guards on the premesis are absolutely necessary to keep schools safe.

I am a network specialist in a school district, and while school is in session, there isn't a locked door or a metal detector in use. Any looney who wanted to could walk in and start whacking people. But the layout of the school has students moving from one building to another, so locking the doors is not possible.

There is no easy answer to this type of senseless violence. Especially when the assailant is willing to take their own life, rather than face the consequences of their actions.

Allowing CCW's in school would certainly help deter this type of crime, however, typical soccer Moms will not allow their child to go to school where a teacher could brandish a firearm. That's far too dangerous!

Another solution if the soccer Moms don't like that would be armed security officers. We have them in some schools already!

Like others have said...the sad fact is that you will always have lunatics like this whether the weapon is a gun, knife, sword, hammer or something else.

Latest news is 6 dead...I believe that includes the shooter and others wounded.

Now, this sounds good on paper, because in our minds we picture Navy Seals standing at the doors of our school, making sure nobody goes crazy, sadly though, in reality, "armed guards" at schoola are old, fat, and generally make low wages.

Are these the people we want to keep our schools secure?

This has the potential to spell really bad news for gun rights, especially with all of this going on in an election year. The antis are going to have a field day. Lunatic, with a gun, in a rural area, mutiple deaths, yadda yadda yadda. Chances are, the guy was in possession of the gun illegally, but that won't matter.

Stay on top of the elections, people, and make sure you vote for people who are going to preserve our rights instead of taking them away for the sake of minority and the illusions of control and security.

Well, I guess my mind was off in perfect-worldland again. Without writing a book, I would hope that the person hired was an off-duty cop, security guard, military or something of the like. A 67 year-old arthritic grandmother with a sawed-off is not quite what I had in mind.

Maybe an Act-120 (is that the right number?) certification?
