Re: what kind of ammo can you use in a ccw?
For my M&P, and S&W 3913, I use Hornedy T.A.P. PD.
For 1911, and 357Mag, i carry Hydrashock. But as soon as I find Hornedy T.A.P on those calibers, I'm switching to them.
I try to use something that says in box "for personal Defence" no matter what caliber. Since those prosecuters do like to say that hollow point are for killing, not for stopping the bad guys on his track...Last edited by Mity2; August 27th, 2007 at 01:01 AM.

Re: what kind of ammo can you use in a ccw?
I did a fair amount of research on which ammo to carry for self defense and choose Remington Golden Saber 230 gr bonded HP in my 45. I read in more then 1 place and also was told by more then 1 leo that this is the ammo that the FBI hostage team uses. In my 9mm I use Speer Gold Dot 124 gr +P after I found out through almost the same sources the commercial pilots were using Gold Dot in their 40 cal weapons after getting certified. I like to carry the same general type of bullets that the law enforcement community carries because they have more money and equipment at their disposal to test different ammunition, also for legal and civil maters after a defensive shooting I believe it is harder to prosecute someone for using inhumane bullets if the law enforcement agencies use the same ones. After all they are the good guys. Luckily both choices give excellent accuracy and function extremely well in all my handguns.

Re: what kind of ammo can you use in a ccw?
He has 4 choices.
1) Cool it, and let you go on your way.
2) Obtain a warrant (He needs probable cause)
3) Search illegally
4) Try and bluff/scare you further to get you to consent.
They most often do #4, followed by #1. Most of the time they ask to search your vehicle they have no PC and they know it. THEY ARE FISHING. If you have not done anything wrong there can be no PC for a warrant. And they will know it. Suspicion is not enough. "Reasonable, articulable suspicion" is enough for detainment but not a search. This is why it is SO important to also keep your mouth shut. Remember, they are fishing, and fish are caught by opening their mouths. IF your being detained because you were speeding, etc, and the cop is further fishing because you dress like a hoodie or are just looking like a criminal that night or because he is on the mood to fish don't give him the PC he needs by answering irrelevant (to the traffic infraction) questions.
Searching illegally: Don't laugh. Happens a lot. This is one reason to always have a audio recorder when driving. Many people are searched illegally and the cop simply testifies the driver consented. Your word against his without proof, good luck getting a judge to believe you. You will loose. Been there, done that.
Nothing good can ever come out of a vehicle search. It's not going to "clear" you. You were "clear" before the search - keep it that way
The same applies to answering questions and showing ID (you must show your drivers license and vehicle papers when driving)..
If you have done nothing wrong assert your rights and refuse consent.

Also, IIRC think depending on the department I have seen them bring the K9 out and sniff around the outside of the car. If they get a hit from the drug dog it is probable cause to search your car.

Patriot - thanks for the insight. I'll have to remember this next time I'm in DPRNJ. Never know what kind of leftovers are in my car from the range...

I use Winchester SXT or Federal Hydra-Shock.
