Default Franklin county ltcf,

My wife surprised me the other day when she allowed me to buy her a Taurus semi auto. Now she is applying for her license to carry.
Here's what it reads.

$5.00 Deposit at the time of application
$14.00 When License is approved
$6.00 Administrative costs
$5.00 Production of Photo card
------------------------------------------------------------
$30.00 Total costs

Pretty reasonable. West Virginia is $80 and Maryland I know is over $100.

At the bottom is says .The Sheriff has 45 days to process your application.
Be aware that when you pick it up, they will take your picture at that point. I picked mine up while bow hunting last year and my hair wound up looking pretty rough. One thing I don't carry with me when I hunt is a comb...

My wife is really excited about her new acquisition.

Default Re: Franklin county ltcf,

I recently moved here from TN where I lived for 10 years and it is much easier in PA to get a permit. It took less than 15 minutes in Clinton County and I was out the door with my permit.

The cost was about $30 for 5 years, but laws on self-defense are much stricter in PA, in TN there is no need to retreat if you arent trespassing or other wise engaging in unlawful activity. Also carrying w/o permit is a misdomeanor and usually a $100 fine and even that isn't usually enforced in rural areas espesially on old men and women.

This is of course assuming that you have a really really reeeeeally reeeeeeeeeally good reason for needing one. Things such as being a previous victim of violence, a battered woman, or having documented death threats from people who are about to get out of prison are not adequate reasons for a permit to carry, according to the powers that be in Maryland. Transporting large sums money for your employment IS apparently considered an adequate reason though.

I would LOVE to have a permit to carry for Maryland and would gladly pay $100 a year for one. I live less that 5 minutes from the Maryland border, work in Maryland, and spend the vast majority of my time in Maryland. I have to be extremely careful as it's so easy to forget and accidentally slip into Maryland while armed. Sadly, if I would ever need a gun for self-defense, it's probably much more likely I'd need it in Maryland than in Pennsylvania.

It seems like so much of the Maryland population is concentrated right outside of D.C. and is thus D.C. seems to heavily influence politics for the rest of the Maryland. If it weren't for that, I think Maryland might have had the potential to be a little bit more pro-gun being as they're surrounded by very pro-gun states like Virgina, WV and Pennsylvania.
