Cool Taurus 85 UL (.38 spl)

Hello all,
Tony Fly here!

I am new to posting but not to shooting. I have a Taurus 85 ultra light (.38 spl, blue w/rosewood grips and gold hardware) on hold at my local gun shop and was just curious to hear some feedback from the past and present owners of this firearm. How was/is your experience with this little beauty? Any problems or symptoms of problems I should watch out for? This .38 will be my primary carry weapon as I can't deny the reliability of a revolver in a defensive situation. I have researched all I can on this model and I just need to hear about other consumers experiences with it before I finalize the deal.

I also own a 1964 Walther PP (.380) which was passed on to me by my grandfather. Great gun but I am having FTF and FTE problems that are most likely related to the 40+ year old magazine springs which I am sure he kept loaded for the last 40 years straight. I just dont trust my life to it at this point in time and can not use it for protection because of these problems, plus it weighs as much as a concrete block.

Thank You for your feedback in advance!
Tony Fly

Highly rated spring company. Have used several of their various springs.

I've had my 85 Multi-Alloy (titanium cylinder, aluminum frame) for many years now.
Initially, the gun had a problem with light strikes. It wouldn't fire 5 rounds reliably.
A quick trip back to the factory squared this away PDQ.
After that, it's been a steady shooter although I carry it a lot and only shoot it every few months (box of 50).
So, I do suggest you put a couple hundred rounds through it in fairly short order..but I'd suggest that with any gun from any manufacturer.

Here's a pic of mine. I normally pocket carry this little pistol. Not as flashy as yours, but it serves the purpose.

The spring company will work perfectly. Thank You very much for sending me in that direction!

I was looking for an 85 similar to yours Roy and the salesman showed me this one for $200 and i just couldn't pass that deal up. I am not all about the gold accents but it doesn't bother me enough to pass up this great deal in front of me. When I pick it up I will post a pic and one of my Walther.

Thank You,
Tony Fly

That gun should be carried by Huggybear from Starsky and Hutch. I'd like to know who the staff was at Taurus that saw this gun as a prototype and thought it was a good idea. Talk about tacky...eesh.

Glad to help out. A few months back I won an auction for a Taurus PT22 by mistake. It did have the fake pearl grips with gold accents all over. I was getting ribbed by my friends everytime they saw it and since it was about as accurate as a liberal democrat, I sold it.
For $200, you can't beat that deal. Good luck with Huggybear!

Even though it is tacky... It is a great deal and I can't pass it up.

Thanks!

ive had my 85ul for some time now and have shot the piss out of it! ha ha.
never had any issue.
i use it as my primary carry piece since is light and reliable.
once they break in, theyre really nice; no so accurate but its not a target pistol!
if you read around, youll find many that agree. hope that helps!
