Cops get probation.

"The former officers were put on probation for second-degree manslaughter. They also were required to do community service and give up their police certificates while on probation.

of course it had to take a nice god fearing kid who probably would have grown up to be a great man. Maybe only the good die young is true.

It was a sweetheart deal for the cops, but at least they're felons and can't own firearms.

If I were the father, I'd follow them to the ends of the earth to make sure people knew who they were. You actually CAN hound someone to his grave, and within the limits of the law, too.

Three of them were fired, plus the chief.

Kid's still dead.

And don't think those cops don't know that they really got away with something.

I good example of the not using the right organization the Policemen should have called animal control to get the snake out of the tree. Now I know some small towns don't have animal control units and the Cops have to do everything but a tree saw or noose could have been used instead of a service pistol.

We have to remember some of these guys believe that its answer to every problem and of course never thought things would turn out like this. I feel sorry for every body involved, but especially for the family 5 years old only old enough to love him so much. Over a stupid mistake trying to help we have to be more aware of what we are doing. Hind sight I can't say that I've never did anything as stupid it just didn't urn out like that. God forbid.

That was a sad. sad event.

I completely agree with the grandfather's statement: any other citizen who acted carelessly would be held responsible. This person shouldn't be held LESS responsible simply because he carries a badge.

What a great tragedy... The "punishment" did not fit the crime!!

...

I really have to wonder about the reading comprehension on this board???????

http://newsok.com/xml/cox/3098884/ (From WhiteFeather's Post #15)
"The woman, who would not identify herself, told The Oklahoman she called the police station to see if animal control could respond and take care of the snake, which she believed to be a diamondback rattlesnake.

She was told that the city, which lost its only animal control officer recently, would send a police officer over to help."

...who was about as "helpful" as Curtis LeMay at a fire drill in Tokyo in March of 1945.
