Default Thoughts on laser sights?

My G23 & my wife's S&W J frame don't have night sights on them & I've been considering Crimson Trace sights, at least for the S&W.
One model my wife looked at when we were shopping for a gun for her had a laser grip & she thought it was just the coolest thing she ever saw on a gun & couldn't get done playing with it.
I realize a laser does not compensate for proper training & range time, but are they worth the money? I can think of situations where they would give a person an advantage, but not too many where they'd put you at a disadvantage.

I opine that a laser when used properly can augment the performance of a shooter, especially in a low light scenario. I have recently become a fan of lasers and just ordered about a grand worth of CT laser grips.

The J frame (especially the 642) really benefits from a laser in my opinion. It is very costly to get tritium out front on the J frame. The laser would be quite an aid in both low light and point shooting scenarios. But as always, weigh the pros and cons...

I got the Crimson Trace laser for my LCP. I was having problems getting the sights into view during the day, and at night they are almost impossible to make out. The laser sped up shooting quite a bit. It helps too with the Crimson Trace having conveniently placed pressure switches to turn the laser on, so you don't have to think about turning it on.

If you havent yet had proper training then spend this money on that.

Then you should have a good perspective to make decisions on what hardware is good, bad, useless, or worse.

I don't have any axe to grind against laser sights, but, if you choose to use them make sure you practice using them while applying correct trigger control. I've seen too many people put the dot on the target then jerk the trigger and miss.

Steve you never shot my safe queen? Kinda moot now with your own kit coming in the mail. Well have to get together. "Be careful not to cross the beams!!" (Ghostbusters) I often shy away from tacticool gear but I see a definite advantage to aiming assistants. Thank God they are no longer the size of cigarette cartons like in Terminator.

I've been teaching people how to shoot for over 40 years and have found lasers to be a great tool (in some cases). The average person can become a very good shot in a relatively short time. I would not hesitate telling anyone to get a laser sight. I have lasers on my J frame and 1911...and my wife has a set on her LCP...all Crimson Trace.
(And they're ESPECIALLY good when your eyes get "old")
