Default Re: what is this shotgun(pics)

Its not a shotgun, its a drilling.

Without identification marks and other stampings - it'd be hard for me to tell what it is. Drillings are predominately German made and designed, English and Italian arms tended to be just double rifles/shotguns - although several English drillings were made..

It's a shame though the stock is broke, the rest of it looks like it could be restored to operating condition - even if the smoothbore tubes are Damascus twist steel, including the dents.

At one time .22 410 where popular for small game, I imagine this is some thing similar to this, 2 top barrel one guage then the third hold is a Rifle caliber

That third barrel is what makes it a drilling. Examples below,

(2) shotgun barrels + (1) or more rifle barrels

(2) rifle barrels + (1) shotgun barrel

or just about any combination of (3) or more barrels.

I'm gonna guess from the images, that it is about 12 or 16ga and the rifle barrel is an 8mm rimmed chamber.

God knows exactly where to look on it. Is there any text or wording on it anywhere?

Found some markings on the under side of the barrel. i cant get a better pic. but using a jewelers glass i can make out the markings but cant say what they are. both barrels have 2 s Marks stamped in them with a German eagle above them so it appears. the center barrel has a number 3198 it also has 118/35 on it also has a k stamp in a circle and a h stamp in a circle and some other stamps i cant describe.
and a 12 gage shell fits in the larger barrels

Quick tip.. look for the button on your camera with the little flower. This is macro mode, and lets you take up close photos without the rest of us thinking we suddenly developed cataracts

Get a paper and pencil rub the soft lead over the paper placed on top of the markings. You will then see things much more clearly then with the naked eye.
The pencil will create an embossed design of what your eye cant really see well.
