Default mosin questions off the wall kinda

question one does anyone know how much a hex reciever m44 would go for in pricing?

second has anyone ever had a mosin rebarreled or know pricing on that?

last does a hex reciever rifle fit in the round reciever stock?

no im not making my own hex m44 to try and get a profit but i do have a remington with a horrible barrel but dont know if it would be worth the money to rebarrel it to make it closer to origional or maybe even an off the wall remington m44. i have been pondering trying to get a real hex m44 though. i might know where one is located but dont know if owner will sell it

opinions are appreciated and my remington is not up for sale it has sentimental value to me even though it is shot lol

Not really all together sure about that but I do have a question. How bad is the bore actually?

No, and I haven't seen one for sale. This is probably because the "hex" receivers were long discontinued before the M44's predecessor (the M1938 carbine) was accepted by the Soviet military. The later M1944 carbine was the M38 fitted with a folding bayonet.

Given the low purchase cost of a Mosin & the unique ammunition geometry, it's unlikely you'll see a Mosin rebarreled anytime soon. And, you'd have to locate a Remington barrel in better condition first. Otherwise, you'll be limited to an M91/30 barrel or another model that isn't period-correct or original to your example.

I tried a 1932 "hex" (actually, half octagonal-they're all round underneath) M1891/30 and a 1937 round receiver, they easily fit into each other's stocks.

If you have a Remington, you have an M1891 or an M1891s, both of which pre-date 1919. I would leave it alone even if the barrel is paper-thin.

Another reason to leave it alone. Just buy the model you're seeking & leave the Remington alone. My grandfather was part of the US contingent in the SEF*, and earned himself a bullet (through the wrist, he survived) in Vladivostok. I'd love to find an affordable, unaltered Remington or Westinghouse.

Oops, almost forgot: lol.

leave the remmy alone i thought the remingtons were just the m91 not the 91/30 but i guess they could have been updated anny way leave it alone ammo is still relativly cheap a regular m44 will run you about 150-200 bucks depending on what it is

I'd leave it alone....

Eagle Arms has a wall full of Mosins for about $130. My last one I got from them is nice and sharp rifling, shoots high and right as most do without a bayonet. You can find them online for $80 or when Dunham's has them on sale for that.

Eagle Arms Sports Shop 610-398-2650
9331 Hamilton Boulevard Breinigsville, PA 18031

But if your dead set on rebarreling it you can probably get one from Numerich

Hex M44's comand a premium over a standard model by about 100+ bucks. last time I saw one and they arent that common of course. As for rebarreling ?unless you have cash to burn or plan on doing the job yourself it really isnt worth it. But its your money and your rifle so its up to you .
