Default Perry County Gun Transfer and Gunsmiths

Newport Area:

I have checked around at a few local places for gun transfers some want $50 to do that. I buy occasionally off GB and AA and would like to find a local place that charges a reasonable fee and are nice easy folks to do business with.

Does anyone know of a good friendly local gunsmith for handgun work (S&W 1911 and 3rd generation)?

You could try a Gander Mountain store if transfer price is an issue. The last time I had one transferred there (about a year ago, had no choice... long story) it cost me $25, I believe.... but as far as being easy to deal with, you better go elsewhere.

Name: Vollrath Gunworks

Vollrath has a good reputation. I haven't had any work done by him.

I use Chestnut's for transfers. His shop is in Sherman's Dale across from the car wash.

I used Reeser's in Duncannon for a transfer. Fee was $20 I think, seemed nice and friendly. I know he does gun smithing (he was lamenting to me one day about how he has to close his shop so that he can get work done). Never had anything done by him though.

There is a guy that used to have his own shop in Duncannon somewhere, then he went to Bass Pro Shops and was one of their smiths until the shut down the fine gun room. I've heard very good things about him from several people, but I can't remember his name now, and I don't know if he's still doing it or not since he was let go from BPS.
