yep. i saw similar things when i used to shoot at the SGL range near wexford.
of course, it also doesn't help that they use "CLEAR!" to mean both "clear to go down range to check targets" and "clear to fire" out there. who the heck thought that up?

Sometimes when I'm up at the SGL range on Rt 6, yelling "claro!" helps. |

Was she shooting her .22lr revolver at the 50yd targets or at the 25yd? Not that it makes any difference, but some folks see them as different ranges, although they are side by side with no barrier between. If you call clear for the 50, some don't realize that it means the 25 as well. I haven't shot there in years. Not that I didn't try. I learned to check it out before I even brought out the gun. Usually just leave now. Even had a group show up once while I was down range and a guy started fondling my AK. Yeah! Picked it up and started checking it out! It wasn't loaded, but still!

i try, whenever possible, to use a "2-man rule" with my shooting buddies - one of us stays at the bench to watch the gear and look out for idiots, the other goes down to hang/paste.
when i go alone, i always take my firearm with me down to hang targets no use getting shot with my own weapon, as a prelude to a theft! |

[quote=Brillfan;960424] It's even worse if there are "out of state" vehicles parked there. QUOTE]
Not sure that is a good indication - you see I have a place in NJ and PA, my vehicle has "out of state" NJ plates. I am a 10+ year US Army Airborne Infantry veteran and an NRA certified Rifle, Pistol, Shotgun, & Law Enforcement certified Instructor. I was also certified as a "Master of Small Arms" in the Army. I have run many, many range sessions with hundreds of soldiers and civilians. I never had a single unsafe incident. On the other hand, I work with a guy who commutes from PA and has those "in state" PA plates. He just asked me about getting a shotgun or handgun for self-defense in his house. He is originally from NYC and never fired a firearm in his life. In this instance, I politely ask you -- who would you prefer to shoot next to? The guy with the "out-of-state" plates, or the "in-state" PA guy? Just offering a different perspective - no offense intended all around, and thanks for reading - Thomas |

Luckily, a SGC employee was there and yelled to me. He also wrote up one of those gentlemen. That's why I also said that if there are more than one or two persons at the range, I just leave.
