I think he is asking if you keep your guns loaded in the house. It would be nice to see some periods and commas though. To answer his question the home defense guns are loaded, and ready. If the gun is not loaded your only choice is to throw it or use it like a hammer.

You should probably consider a gun safety course, or even better, a self defense course. NRA courses are pretty cheap and good for people new to guns. Call your local ranges and see what they offer. Classic Pistol in Southampton is probably a good place to call.
