Default Is having a real gun as part of a halloween costume kosher?

Hey guys, I'm thinking of dressing up as a Police officer or a zombie cop for trick or treat night. I was also thinking of using my 1911 in a fobus holster as my "sidearm". what are your guys thoughts on this? I know the gun shouldn't be a problem, but it's the gun in conjunction with a costume i'm not sure of. I'm not going to be all decked out in a police uniform, just blue pants and blue t-shirt with a el cheapo badge pinned on. so am I cool or should I ditch the idea?

Ouch tuff one. I am sure there will be a plethora of technical posts from the daily dozen. I would worry about some doucher LEO claiming you are impersonating an LEO. That would be my only worry though and highly doubtful.

I have made my own custom ODST Halo 3 costume and I plan to wear my carry piece, but I am also carrying a toy assult rifle. That is a far cry from a cop costume though.

Have fun and be safe.

Legal or not, thats some bad mojo to do that... I do some brazen stuff in life, but I would not do that.

I personally think that keeping your real gun concealed, and using a prop/toy gun as part of the costume might be the wiser thing to do.

My thought right off is that it being Halloween and you being in costume that some bozo (not necessarily in a clown costume) would assume your sidearm is a prop and try to grab it.

Even though you're using retention on the holster, still would be a bad scene IF this were to happen.

I'd CC the real gun and OC a toy.

Something about this statement strikes me as completely f*cked up. (and I don't carry, concealed or otherwise... yet )

What if (god forbid) a SHTF situation arises? He'll have to remember that the gun on his side is fake, and draw his real concealed firearm.

It's legal, and it's your right. Carry openly if you wish. Just don't impersonate an officer.

Oh, and try not to shoot any zombies. Unless they're real...

I OC'd my carry piece when we went to a Halloween Party at a swingers club, but that was in Florida and I cleared it with the owner of the property a week prior. I dont know that I would do it dressed as anything resembling a cop, unless it was a zombie cop with a shredded " uniform " and enough make up and such to make it impossible to mistake you for the real thing. Just sayin

i wouldn't do it just because other people will think the gun is not real.

at many parties, i could see someone who has been drinking a bit deciding it would be funny to disarm the guy dressed up like a cop.
